Re: deluxe chrome strips
These two pictures are for the nose bowl and cowl. The short pieces go over and under the long ones with "Taylorcraft" on them. There is one piece per side for the boot cowl and one for each side on the door. The door ones have a hole for the outside door handle.

These photos are of mine, NOT the ones for sale, but I can tell you, if you need them, GRAB them. My set took YEARS to find!

Re: deluxe chrome strips
The boot trim strips are a different length from the engine cowl ones. Only the front center ones have Taylorcraft on them, but I HAVE seen some front ones without the pressed in "Taylorcraft". The door ones also have a tapered end behind the door handle hole.
I have been planning to make a mold to cast resin ones that would be painted with Stainless appliance paint, but REAL ones still look much better! The front grills are cast Aluminum (there are three of them, don't forget the rectangular one on the bottom). The aluminum never seems to polish up like the stainless, probably my technique. I have painted mine with the appliance paint since the photo and they look much better now. Not perfect, but MUCH better than aluminum that won't hold a polish.
If you are planning to go back to original with a 41 Deluxe and want a full set, I may be able to fill in the missing parts soon with fakes till you can find stainless. You will want as much of the original as you can get and may find it piece at a time. I am also looking at MANY antique cars for the basic stock they were made from. You know that Taylor would NOT have had this stuff made just for a few planes! The "Taylorcraft" stamping would be the tough part.

Re: deluxe chrome strips
Hank, or anybody that has the trim pieces,
Would you measure the length and width of these and post that info here.
I'm thinking about painting detail onto my cowl that approximates this trim.
Also does anyone have any pictures of the bootcowl and door trim. I've never seen this.Tim Hicks

Re: deluxe chrome strips
Here are photos of the door and boot cowl trim. Kind of hard to see the trim on the boot cowl (last photo) but it is the only shot I have with a boot trim on. The lengths of the door and boot trim are pretty constant for all the 41s but the cowl length could be different if anyone ever changed the engine size or mount to make yours a long cowl for a starter. Sorry about the 90* rotation on the door alone, I didn't notice till it was already attached.
Hank
That is also NOT an original door handle.

Re: deluxe chrome strips
I originally just painted a masked off area between the Maroon and Cream on mine and painted it with the Stainless appliance paint. From across the ramp it looked fine, but from under 20' it looked like a painted trim stripe. If you go that route, make the stripe about 1/4" narrower than the real strips and when you put the real trim pieces on they will cover it. I got away with it for quite a while. ;-)
Hank
These pieces were originally used on the sides of cars in the 30s. I think I am getting close to who made them and there are car restoration places that still make it for the cars (if you can find out WHICH car). The problem is they obviously DO NOT come with Taylorcraft stamped in the front pieces!

Re: deluxe chrome strips
Thanks Ray,
Those dimensions are just what I needed.
I see there is no length for the long strip. But that's OK because it seems like the long piece reaches almost to the end of the upper engine cowl.
That's close enough for what I'm doing.
I have no interest in putting the actual trim pieces on. I just want to paint something similar.
I don't think that I'll go past the cowling. To me, the trim on the boot cowl and the door don't add anything to the look.

Re: deluxe chrome strips
If you are going for something more "Custom" why not look at the 1" wide car door bumper strips that are commercially available? They come with a nice taper at the end where you would be stopping prior to the boot. A a couple of the 3/4" ones for the top and bottom would have the same look and feel as the original.

Re: deluxe chrome strips
The long one goes back to the door handle, see hank's picture. I sold the set I had to Hank for his restoration. My ship has been modified with larger windows and a sky light and I did not plan to use them. But, I was thinking of doing a scaled down set of strips, just on the cowl. My thought was to make them from some fine grained wood and paint them with chrome paint. That way they would be 3 dimensional.Ray
