    Hey Guys,
I need a pair of door handles for the fabric doors on my '40 BC project. Any body got a pair to spare?

Hi Mikeg. If you look on e-bay,item #200908750692,you will find a pair of nos cabinet door handels.Kind of pricey, but have been there long time.My 1940 bc has this syle on it.If you would use these, you would need to cut the square shank off some, then thread it back about 3/8 in.,useing a 1/4-20,or 1/4-28 thead. The door catch is nothing more than a curved strap with a square hole in it,that can be made fairly easy.

I looked, but the auction had ended. The handles in the picture that were marked sold are just like the ones I used on my BL when I restored it. They came from a camper supply place also. They were not a 100% match, but unless you had an original to compare it to you would never know, and even then it is hard to tell.

I would bet when they ran out of handles on the production line someone was sent to the hardware store to buy what they could find that was close. There are just TOO MANY different handles showing up on planes. I know the wood door latch mechanisms are still being made and are IDENTICAL, right down to the name and part number for screen doors. I hand made replacement parts for mine and then saw them on the shelf in an "Old Fashion" hardware store. Always nice to have an extra under the shelf, as long as no one with a three letter ball cap and clip board asks where I bought it.

look on Ebay for door handles under e bay motors, there are hundreds of old antique handles, I picked up some there that look pretty close to bc-12 door handles

            Re: Door Handles Needed

I bought a pair of handles a couple of years back on eBay. The price seemed right so I just decided that I wanted them. I'm still not sure if they're similar to those that might have been on a '39 out of the factory, but they're much nicer than what I'm flying with now. Some clean up and paint are in order of course, as well as fitting them in the doors (welded tube & fabric both sides).

                  Re: Door Handles Needed

I know this is an old thread, but I also need one door handle. Tried to make plastic, cast one (twice, but they broke). I remember somebody on this forum reported that a certain model of VW handle had the right size hole for the shaft on the T'craft. Does anyone know what the model (or models) is?

Gerald, what year and model is your plane. Inside or outside handle? If I don't have a handle I might have a photo so the search would be easier.

For anyone else I am still looking for one of these.

                      It's a '46 BC12D. I need an outside handle.

                        Re: Door Handles Needed

Anybody have a photo of the stock 46 handle? I have some old sheet metal doors but the last time we went through this it seems I remember the handles were almost impossible to get off. Maybe time to try again after soaking in penetrating oil for a few months. Want to make sure I try to pull the right one!

All four handles are the same on my plane. Attached are a couple of pictures you posted back in 6/11. My handles are the top one in the photos.

Hank, agree with Mike. Every '46 I have seen had the top handles in both photos.

                              Re: Door Handles Needed

I will try to get another one off next time out. Anyone have any suggestions on how to get a steel shaft out of f cans aluminum handle? Tried all kinds of penetrating oils. Tied repeated applications of pressure. Heat is a problem since it is still on the door. Maybe I'll try my Tile Gun instead of a fan tip on a propane torch.
I could send a whole door, but then YOU couldn't get the handle off either.
