I've got a line on an O-200 and my IA wants to test run it before I make an offer. It's been stored for years. One of my L-2 fuselages is on it's gear with the mount and he suggested using that to run it. Can an O-200 bolt onto the mount without hitting the firewall? I know there are other considerations for the real installation but I just want to test run it for now. Thanks.

Re: O-200 on L-2 mount
Be sure to chain or tie the fuselage down in the ROLL direction as well as to react the thrust. The prop torque will tend to roll the fuselage over (tie it BOTH WAYS! The acceleration of the prop and the DECEL of the prop will roll it opposite directions!). The wing inertia provides a LOT of anti torque! I have heard of guys trying to taxi a plane without wings and rolling them on their side. The results are NOT PRETTY!

Re: O-200 on L-2 mount
We'll control the roll issue. I'm really just worried about the mount length right now. I know the short mount on a BC won't hold a C-85 with accessories let alone an O-200 but I think (hope) the L-2 mount is longer. In discussions about the L-2 re-engine STC I've not heard any mention of a different engine mount. Anyone know for sure or have an L-2 with an O-200?Regards,

Will the mount take the strain? Probably for a short test run. Perhaps cap off the accessories to reduce weight and assure clearance.

Re: O-200 on L-2 mount
Quick throttle changes can generate some high torques (up an down). Seems the plane that got laid on it's side was something like a Champ, Chief, Cub size. The fuselage was uncovered and that wasn't where everyone was focusing their attention. A couple of ropes from the wing attach points and the ends tied around two parked car tires would make SURE it didn't happen WITH a tail tie, not in place of it!)

Mark
Do you have any pictures of the f-19 Fuselage bottom just before putting on the fabric and then again after the fabric is on? I am rebuilding a wrecked F-19 that I purchased after it was taken all apart so I do not know what the bottom is to be like before cover. How far does the Fabric go farward? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: O-200 on L-2 mount
Hello Tharon, and welcome to Taylorcraft ownership!
The F19 fabric covering is the same as a B model fabric covering, so there is lots of expertise here.
The belly fabric has to fit around the bungee cut-out, and is attached to the cross-tube forward {towards the engine} of that cut-out.
The picture below is from the underside. Down in my picture = forward towards the engine.
The picture below is where the fuselage fabric attaches at the gear and strut fittings on the left hand side. The big welded cluster is the port side strut and gear attachment at the lower port longeron.
(in my photo below, I have the fuselage on its right hand side).
There is a wooden aerodynamic fairing under the fabric as well):
More pictures here
I hope that helps, but ask more questions if you need !
