    Re: New 1940 BC65 Restoration.

I'll try and get a picture of the gear tomorrow. Do you know if your airplane had a headliner in it or was it fabric covered. It will make a difference in how much should be covered. I will have to see if I can find some pictures of the BL I restored for where the fabric goes.

I got the project half finished, so it was already dissassembled. It came with a new headliner so yes it had one I suppose. Thanks for offering pictures, that is worth a 1000 words like they say!
      Thanks again.

Moved the T-Craft to my new hangar at SAC (Sacramento Executive) last weekend. I had put my name on the waiting list 8 weeks ago and was expecting to wait for months, lucky me, I got a call two weeks ago.
Much better then my garage, and only 5 miles away from the house plus I am now around airplane noise

Here are a few update on my restauration project.

Finished covering all tail feathers, landing gears and doors.
Rib laced all tail feathers, I got that down to a science now
Tapped the doors and in the process of tapping the tail feathers and landing gear.

                Jerry,

Nice work! I have never seen partial inspection rings used before. My gear legs just have small openings created using a soldering iron. Looks like you will be putting on the silver soon.

Thank you, I have covered dozens if RC models but this is the first real cover job, I guess it helped.
Yes, the half inspection rings, I figure that a little reinforcement in that area would not hurt, I'll cut it open after I spray all of the silver and color coats. I'll be working on taping the tail feather and gear next.

                    Question for the group.

My project is a 1940 BL65 (converted to BC65) with no wing tanks. I would like to know if wing tanks can be added to the prewar model? If so, what is needed to get this done legaly? Is there an existing STC for it. Should I add two tanks or just one tank? If only one, left or right? Plumbing schematics?
                    Alright,too many question already.
                    Thanks

Check the Type Cert. There were wing tanks on some pre-war Taylorcrafts. It can be and has been done. My 41 had one RH tank when built so I don't know the process but I know some planes on here have added them with few problems.

The BL/BC is not approved for wing tank, but there ar several out there flying arond that have them. I would think that somewhere there would be someone who gat an approval. Tom

My 1940 BC-65 is a Deluxe model, two doors, and a six gallon wing tank. It's the way that I bought it

According to my paperwork my 41 Deluxe BL-65 (with a Cont since WW-II) also had a RH wing tank from the factory.

Hank, your airplane is a BL12-65. The 1200 pound gross airplanes were the first to have 18 gallons of fuel with one wing tank listed in the TCDS. The B*65 airplanes and before has a note for an optional 6 gallon tank in the fuselage. Here is the link to the TCDS for the BC series aircraft.
