For decades the inner door handles wore the square shaft down and eventually the inner handles just would just spin on the shaft. It required all sorts of tricks to latch/unlatch the doors and passengers usually couldn't get it.
The problem was that the factory ran the tap for the cap nut way down the shaft and the inner handle wore the threads off making the square shaft round.
Also the handle stop tab welded on the door frame on the pilots door was out of position from the factory and allowed the inner handle to over rotate damaging the inner door frame.
Tried two weld repair techniques and one was much easier to get the shaft hand filed back to square. Also modified the inner handle to address the mislocated handle stop tab.
What I did is in the attachment with photos. It just amazing how nice they work now, passengers are happy and no more frame damage.
I'll repaint them once it gets warm enough here.
Hope it helps, Mark
