I found these two photos of some absolutely BEAUTIFUL wood work in the area needed, but it is NOT the original design as I remember it (actually, looks like a BETTER design to me, but not the way Taylorcraft did it). My 41 DID NOT have the wood cross piece at the rear spar attach (but I like it) and the side pieces are MUCH thicker than any I have here (which is a good thing when you put the bands on). You can see that on this plane the side pieces only seem to run a short distance aft of the 4th bolt tab hole and the contour is picked up by the wedge shaped piece on the top of the longeron in the photo. I am pretty sure this plane must have gotten a full skylight when covered.
Anyone know whose plane it is? It might be the one Ray Bozella rebuilt, but I'm not sure. I don't remember Ray's plane having that mag switch.
Hank
The side pieces are 2 piece hank. The piece aft of the wing attach is taped in place. I am sure I have good side pieces here.
EDIT: Tim's pics are correct for prewar or post war. Only difference is the notch in the wood for the trim tab indicator to pass through the wood.
Found a BOX FULL of wood parts at the airport yesterday (digging through the junk pile cleaning sometimes turns up treasures!) There were MANY of the aft fairings and even a few unbroken ones for the top of the longerons next to the wing root. Some of them ARE different and I will try to get some photos as soon as I have sorted the box.
Maybe some of the Tribe can help identify the "odd" ones.
Bumping this thread for a caller looking for more info on the cabin roof wood parts. I was going to post the photos I got from Rob Lees (his wood work looks far better than mine) but I think all the photos he sent me are already posted earlier in the thread. I will make a note to trace the wood parts at the hangar next time out. I have collected a few more sets of broken wood pieces and should be able to make a drawing of the whole pieces now.
The caller also asked about the trim indicator but his plane used the flipper so I will post drawings of the indicator parts in the 41 Deluxe folder.
