  • Pre war big tach discussions

Wanted to start a new discussion on the early panels including providing a place for photos and information, especially on the large tach

OK, this thread was SUPPOSED to be under Taylorcraft Technical Topics but keeps posting under General Topics Discussions. Anyone know how to move it where it is supposed to be? The site is also NOT allowing me to upload photos. Anyone else having Forum problems?

      Hi Hank,
I've been away from the forum for awhile. My 1940 BC-65 project has the big tach. I had it restored in Lock Haven, PA a few years ago. It hasn't been installed yet.

Just as an explanation, I owned a 39 for a while and passed her on to a professional to restore. I collected these and now have no use for them. Not sure how hard to find they are so wanted to Click image for larger version

                    Hank,
Do you have one that you would like to see installed in a recently returned to the U.S. 1940 BL-65. I am in San Diego, CA. [email protected] or 619 933-5368.

I had a plane that used one but it was donated to a museum for professional restoration along with all the parts that went with the plane. Unfortunately a prior owner had even sold the big tach from the pile. Afraid I have no pre 41 parts left except for stabs (which seem to be pretty easy to find. They seem to be the last parts to arrive at a crash and are all over the place!)

They had pants in 41, at least on the Deluxe models. I don't know when they became an option but if you go through the advertisements in Chet's book you might be able to tell. I need to look at my collection of "T" advertisements.

Looking only at period photos the earliest one with pants was 1938. Also found one factory photo of one in 1939. Anyone have an earlier picture? I am NOT counting modern photos of older planes, just period photos.
