  • Annual Taylorcraft Foundation Renewal for 2009

    Hello from The Taylorcraft Foundation.

Your annual membership in The Taylorcraft Foundation renews each year in January. If you have not already done so would you please consider lending your support for preserving Taylorcraft history and renew for 2009?

If you haven't joined but have been enjoying the use of the forum at vb.taylorcraft.org and possibly benefiting from the technical information provided there now would be a good time to pay it back by joining and sending in your annual membership payment.

Membership for 2009 is only $20.00.

Your membership goes a long way to help with the expenses of maintaining the Taylorcraft archives, acquiring data, office costs, answering questions and representing The Foundation at events.

The Foundation Internet sites costs are all donated by various members and friends.

You can mail a check to the Foundation offices, along with new or updated membership info; details are at http://taylorcraft.org/membership.html

You can also send your membership payment via www.paypal.com, our account is [email protected]

Please note that you are receiving this email because this email address was used to register at The Taylorcraft Foundation forum at http://vb.taylorcraft.org if you want your account removed or adjusted please send email to [email protected] where the use of Please and Thank you go a long way.

Speaking of which, thank you for your continued support and participation!

    Hi all,

the membership renewals are processed by hand by Forrest and a family member that volunteers their time. Its been an unusually busy time in Alliance this winter and he is running a bit behind.

I appreciate everyone's support of The Foundation.

If you want to confirm your renewal or membership it would be best if you email Forrest directly.

Bob, I am in the same situation, I used PayPal twice including last month. I did get a email from Forest letting me know that he received my money, this time, and my application. This is the first time I had filled out the app.

I hate pay-pal unless you mail me a filled out application; otherwise how do I know who you are? Why not just send a check , then the full amount goes into the Foundation ' paypal charges about $2.00 per transaction.
Also screen names , I am Forrest Barber , I cannot find Josh Bashibazouk in the data base of incoming .... perhaps it is muisspelled , i do not know! right now I am very busy with the Factory on considering a business proposal that has been relayed to the Regional Reps and I am waiting for their suggestions... We are doing three restorations near Alliance and they are using the drawings and finding big problems with them. ALL parts were built off the fixtures not the drawings. more real soon.

Aw crud! I thought Pay-Pal was EASIER for you. Next year when you send out the reminders (because you KNOW we would all forget if you didn't put a message to the group) make sure you also remind us about mailing a check, if we can combine the club and foundation and to put our foundation number on the check and application.
You know I only remember all that because I sent my payment so late this year (again). Next year, I promise to get it in EARLY and with a filled out application. I put my foundation number in my information this time so at least I will remember it next time.

Thanks again for all your support.

Sorry. I can't let this go.

When you receive a PayPal payment, the email message lists the name and address of the sender. The email and the payment are records just like a scrap of paper, just in a different format and it's much easier to duplicate the electronic version and both of us have records of the payments, much like a canceled check.

For a $20 payment, they charge 2.9% + $.30 or 88 cents, not $2. For what it's worth, last year I paid $25 via PayPal do make up the difference and still didn't hear anything back. Why not ask folks to pay $21 if they want to use PayPal? Lots of companies do that. Since I'm already using the computer when I get the notice that dues are owed, I'm much more likely to make a few mouse clicks and pay online than dig out my checkbook, an envelope and stamp, and walk the thing out to the mailbox.

Screen names: When I signed up for this forum, I chose something unique, just like lots of other people here did. It's an option that's given on the forum-- I didn't build the site. Finding out someone's details is as simple as clicking on their screen name. It's blue with a little line under it. Try it.

I am a newcomer to the organization and I know you've been doing this for years. I can appreciate that you're busy Forest and I do value the work that you do for the Foundation.

I work for a company that for decades did things "just like we've always done it" despite the advances made in technology until it got to the point where they had to change. Flying a 737 NG like it's a -200 might fool the Feds into thinking they require the same type, but it's just stupid not to use the capabilities of the airplane. Now that some of those changes have been made, we all understand that life can be easier with properly applied technology, but it does require some adaptation.

            Respectfully,

I understand that parts were made off of fixtures. That's how factory airplanes are built. Without drawings or an original part, an owner cannot build replacement parts for his Taylorcraft. If you have an original part that is a complex structure which cannot be un-welded or otherwise taken apart, a drawing is required to determine the structure that can't be seen.

I'd be glad to help however I can. I'm not asking anyone to do more work by themselves. I'd be happy to help out with the computer stuff as needed or membership stuff or whatever! If I need to travel to Alliance or somewhere else, I'll do that, too.

I am just happy that those of you that felt its worthwhile sent in your $20+ bucks. The money helps pay some of the expenses, the rest is donated. The Foundation runs on Attaboys, dog treats and a little bit of cash.

But remember it takes a 1000 attaboys to equal one "JOB WELL DONE" and only one "aw sh*t" to loose all your attaboys!

I really don't mean any disrespect. I think the technology can make things easier and cut down on the number of dog treats! I'll enclose a few biscuits with my next payment; I guess I can't do THAT on PayPal.

Thanks for the great job you and Forrest do. The site is great, the discussions lively, and the support for 70 year-old airplanes is pretty good, too! Attaboys.

Re: Annual Taylorcraft Foundation Renewal for 2009

You know, Forrest (like me) doesn't really LIKE messing with computers, spreadsheets and all the accounting mess. There are a lot of guys in the foundation who actually LIKE that stuff. Why not have someone do the PayPal part for him and just set up an automatic system to keep the accounting on an internal post system. PayPal really doesn't care where we are, where the guy doing the accounting is or where the bank that gets the cash is. We would use PayPal to put our money in to the bank Forrest already uses and the balance sheet would be available on line to the volunteer, the board and Forrest anytime they wanted to look at it. There are plenty of safeguard systems available and it really should be pretty simple to set up. I would much rather have Forrest messing with planes where we have access to him than sitting at a desk somewhere doing the money for the club and foundation.
                        Any volunteers?

I can use some help from you that are comfortable with web work.

                          1. I need someone to take on updating the taylorcraft.org web site. I dont mean re-do it in the latest lounge look. the content needs work, updates and some fixes to the potholes left by my departed room mate/web artist.

                          2. the Forum runs on PHP. An idea would be to see if there is some prior work from the VB community to manage memberships and yearly renewals. Note
that not all Foundation members are Forum users, and certainly not all Forum users are members. I dont have time to chase this idea down but perhaps one of you would like to try it.

What I dont have time for is to have to fix a flaming disaster so lets take it in baby steps.

Baby steps sounds like a good way to go. Better to leave it alone than make the wrong changes.
I'm sure not the right person for this one. I didn't even notice any pot holes. Let's just make sure it is simple to use for those of us who can fix a Taylorcraft but are pretty illiterate with computers.

I would be happy to make content changes to Taylorcraft.org if needed. Like it or not, I built and hosted the Taylorcraft.com site for years (I still host it gratis for Harvey Patrick), so I know how this web thing works.

I notice some things that need updating like the contact info for the factory, and the Harer STC are out of date.

As for PayPal, that can be made a little more sophisticated too. The goal should be to automate the sign up process for the Foundation with receipts and membership cards available as pdf downloads, so the workload on Forrest would be minimized.
