    Re: Taylorcraft 15A N23JW

No corrections asked for or required Ryan. I believe from your enthusiasm you'll pursue the history of your plane, and perhaps the Model 15's in general at some point. It would make for a fascinating read to get all the pertinent data from design, to build, to FAA recorded history available at (http://aircraft.faa.gov/e.gov/nd/). Surely there's boxes of info on development stored somewhere.

Whoever restored the plane must have gone through a similar process. Are they still around or have you contacted them?

Thanks for the pics (a admittedly vicarious pursuit by me). The wing's leading edge looks to be a bit more curved and extended downward than the Pipers I've owned, but that may be a function of the camera angle.

Lacking more info I'll assume it's a Cub wing. Piper developed the YL-14 for military liaison work (Google it), that had two abreast seating and had flaps plus leading edge slots. The 15's wing may have been designed similarly. Piper took that to the civilian market in the form of the PA-14 but w/o the slots. Now all manner of experimenters like Dakota Cub have revisited the slots and other modifications.

    EDIT: Piper YL/L-14: http://www.a2oxford.info/Pages/spain...005_piper.html

    Enjoy your beautiful Taylorcraft,

    Gary

Congrats on getting that 15A Ryan, I saw it listed. It sounds like an impressive aircraft, kind of a "sleeper" like the Aeronca Sedan.

My AP/IA is actually the guy who restored Norm's L-14. I think it was Dakota Cubs that they sent a rib off to in order to get enough for the restore. It was a basket case. The last I knew it was still for sale.

        Hi Ryan,

Great airplane, I too am glad it has a home where she will be flown. A question I have is about the "puck" feature on top of the wheel pants, is that a step? I'm assuming you can stand on it to check the wing tanks. Or does it say "No Step!".

If you get a chance it would be cool to see a picture of the panel too please.

        Have fun! Mark

Yes it is supposed to be a step although I would not step on them! The panel in it is not original. It actually had a B model instrument panel with a turned metal bezel across the bottom. We are planning to put the original panel back in. I have already located a replacement bezel. You can see the original in the ad.

And the back seat. Much bigger than our pacer but still really a one adult seat as you can see with my uncle in the back. Great for the kids.
