Re: Taylorcraft 15A N23JW
No corrections asked for or required Ryan. I believe from your enthusiasm you'll pursue the history of your plane, and perhaps the Model 15's in general at some point. It would make for a fascinating read to get all the pertinent data from design, to build, to FAA recorded history available at (http://aircraft.faa.gov/e.gov/nd/). Surely there's boxes of info on development stored somewhere.
Whoever restored the plane must have gone through a similar process. Are they still around or have you contacted them?
Thanks for the pics (a admittedly vicarious pursuit by me). The wing's leading edge looks to be a bit more curved and extended downward than the Pipers I've owned, but that may be a function of the camera angle.
Lacking more info I'll assume it's a Cub wing. Piper developed the YL-14 for military liaison work (Google it), that had two abreast seating and had flaps plus leading edge slots. The 15's wing may have been designed similarly. Piper took that to the civilian market in the form of the PA-14 but w/o the slots. Now all manner of experimenters like Dakota Cub have revisited the slots and other modifications.
EDIT: Piper YL/L-14: http://www.a2oxford.info/Pages/spain...005_piper.html
Enjoy your beautiful Taylorcraft,
Gary
