    Re: New word: Ineptocracy (in-ept-o-cra-cy)

Hank, I was trying just now to think of something to say about what usually results when I mention Representative Republic over lunch or a beer, and how to say it in an amusing style. Nah, not a single inspired thought comes to mind.

OR: (To paraphrase Winston Churchill) " A Democracy may not be the best but it sure beats the alternatives!) I will direct your attention to the fact that Bush 2 only started the Democracy bit after he had lied and was found out on his first ploy, that being "weapons of mass destruction, mushroom clouds, smoking guns, etc. JC

JC why do you take every opportunity to turn threads into an opportunity to bash Bush?

          Re: New word: Ineptocracy (in-ept-o-cra-cy)

Lloyd, do you think it might have something to do with being pissed at Bush? Chuckle.

Now if I was going to rant on about Mr. Bush II, I would have to say that I am more than a little disgusted by the death, in Iraq, of 4,500 guys who will never again get to play ball with their sons, or kiss their wives, or see their daughters grow up to do something important. No sunsets or fishing or watching the world series ever again for them. No nothing. Zip. Nada for them. You can probably multiply that number by 5 or so to get the number of wives, children and parents that will be miserable for years to come. Then there are the 30,000+ wounded ones that will have to make due with one eye or no eyes, pieces of their heads missing, no legs, arms, private parts. And likely the majority of the troops that were there will be a least a little screwed up mentally and emotionally for the remainder of their lives if they follow the example known from other wars. That must count into the 100 thousands. All for What? So the conservatives wouldn't call him a lily liver like they did his dad? You would think that he might have given the possible consequences a bit more consideration before he roared in there.

But I don't figure there is much point in doing that. I know a man doesn't have any control over the intelligence level he is born with and perhaps should not be blamed. I'm perfectly satisfied to let History deal with conclusions about that.

Of course if I was going to criticise him about Iraq I would also have to come down on those responsible for 10 times as many deaths in Vietnam, and we know who that would be.

I rather like the saying that if you want to find out who a man really is, put him a position of power.

Enough of this silliness, I'm going to curl up in bed with a new John Grisham book I just picked up. Beautiful weather here, finally cooled off. Maybe take the Tcraft out tomorrow.

Edit: added "in Iraq" to above, sorry about leaving that out--important.

            Re: New word: Ineptocracy (in-ept-o-cra-cy)

Maybe I should jsut keep my mouth shut but have to stir a little bit on this one.... Now I can understand a little Bush bashing, its every americans right, thier freedom, freedom we would not have if not for those who have fought, suffered, died! They all signed up for it. WWII and Vietnam was a little different. A lot of folks had no choice about going due to the draft. But since that war it has all been done by the brave couragous hearts & souls of volenteers. And even thou they didn't deserve to die or get wounded, thier families don't deserve the heart break & sorro. What they do deserve is our respect, our thanks, our hearts & prayers, our complete support....they deserve to have every american able to hold a rifle standing right there with them or at least standing up for them here at home! Standing up against a government who is rapidly turning its back on them and us and the very freedom for which they provide and we strive for.
I don't agree with the way Bush did many things...yeah,maybe it could've been better planned at some points...but at least he did something and he did it because he was pissed. He did it becasue someone wanted to take away what is ours. They came over here and intentionally mudered thousands of innicent familys, friends, women,& children on our ground! So even thou I feel that Bush could have done some things different,I certinly won't bash him for standing up and fighting for what is right. He may not have been honest about everything, but name one politition who is......look what we have now,our current leader has done more damage to our country then anyone ever has. I know we were already in a financial down fall but what has Obama done to correct it???? I give him credit that he's a very smart talker and a very intelligent man,but he has no sense of leadership and no commen sense! He also has no respect for out country, our countrymen, our military men & women,or our people. At least Bush did show us respect in that department. No,Bush was not a great president, but he tried to do what he thought was right for our country, he did not disrespect us, he stood up for our flag, he soluted when he should have, he bowed he head when someone said a prayer, and he did not bow to those who want to end us. I mean no offense to anyone. It is everyones right too speak thier mind and have a public opinion, but there are folks out there right now who would love to take those rights from us....think about that the next time you want to speak a public opinion and ask yourself what if there was no one to stand up and fight for our freedom. What if Obama had been president when the twin towers were struck, where would we be now? Ask yourself that question.

I doubt that there has ever been a President that coudn't be bashed in one way or another. Thankfully most of us move on rather than get stuck in the past when there is a change. When I read some history books I find it truly amazing that we have survived so long because neach side thought the otherside was not good for the country.

                Re: New word: Ineptocracy (in-ept-o-cra-cy)

Well, for sure President Obama is a clever, calculating dude. To answer your question I would first present his record of sending additional troops back to Afghanistan. He didn't screw around with Pakistan when he wanted to take out Bin Laden. His drones have taken out numerous fanatic leaders. I think he would have handled Afghanistan in pretty much the same way as the former president. He never would have gone into Iraq though.

I would mention that President Bush, in my judgement, did have a very aggressive staff pushing him really hard to go in there, for reasons totally unfathomable to me, and completely in conflict with what his intelligence staff was initially telling them.

As for the way things are discussed here, most members are willing to discuss things in a non-reactionary civilized manner, I guess there will always be people who can't do that to one degree or another.

Let it not be thought that I am against the use of our massive power as needed. Example: I think we should have immediately told Iran that they could either return our embassy people or we would turn their industrial, military, and commercial structures into piles of dust. That was a government supported action and therefore an act of war. Big mistake on our part. The guys who blew up downtown New York were individual fanatics, mostly from Arabia, a country whose backside we continue to kiss. We should handle that kind of problem in a completely different way.

Hey, enough of this, I'm going to go get me a good brunch and then fly the Tcraft some. Looks like another beautiful day here. Maybe I'll talk to that pretty new clerk at the tractor store.

Sounds like three very GOOD stirs to me. I will repeat, it is easy to stand up for what you guys are saying (what I agree with), what is hard is to stand up for what someone you don't agree with says. I am still glad we have this section on the group.
