A new word for today's vocabulary

Ineptocracy (in-ept-o-cra-cy) - a system of government where the least capable to lead are elected by the
least capable of producing, and where the members of society least likely to sustain themselves or succeed,
are rewarded with goods and services paid for by the confiscated wealth of a diminishing number of producers.

Well that is also the definition (and reality) of the so-called democratic "system" that both your country and mine operate.

AKA " We the unknowing, led by the unthinking, are doing the impossible for the tossers in power" (with my apologies to René Descartes for the mistranslation)

I suppose the alternative is dictatorship, but at least then you get to run your country for 40 years!

And with a dictatorshp you always have someone to blame, instead of placing the blame where it belongs, by looking in the mirror. L

Well Larry, I look in the mirror and I don't see anyone who put my current regime in power. 49% of my fellows feel the same.

Recently, Here in the Good ole US of A it would not make any difference if I voted for A or B. After all the conflicting language, in the end, they both, along with Congress, wind up doing the bidding of the Corporate Elite. Been that way for a long time, just that now we are coming to the end of a long era of reckless spending of wealth that doesn't exist.

It isn't the people in political office that are the problem, it is the system that requires them to behave in the same old way in order to get there and stay there.

The system is the problem. What was really sad was when the Supreme Court endorsed it. That pretty well assured that it will never get fixed by normal means.

It sucks, but then 200+ years isn't really too bad of a run, all things considered. Who knows where it will go from here, but I would bet that it is going to be interesting.

If they would simply put a term limit on congress, make them live but the same laws/rules,retirement,and healthcare system they force on us then a lot of problems would be quickly solved or the system would suddenly get a major overhaul. Congress should never be allowed to impose laws, rules,or pay raises for themselves without the majority approval of the nation(i.e. let us vote for it....majority vote!!). Also, the electorial vote system is a crock and should be done away with all together. I understand 50 years ago it was almost impossible to count each vote nationwide and a lot has to do with population and industry....but now with the use of computers voting the popular/majority vote should be the winning vote nationwide! I just can't understand how it can be fair that in the last presidential election Obama actually won the race with less votes....McCain lost the election with almost twice as many individual nationwide votes as Obama, that's a crock in my opinion....but I'm just one voice screaming along, so what good can I do??? Probably none but I still keep screaming.

If you impose requirements for legislators to live under the rules we do, make their salary the average of their constituents, and put them under the same retirement and health system as regular civil servants you wouldn't NEED term limits. Anyone who went to D.C. as a GS-5 or 7 first term and took over 20 years to reach GS-14 would be a true dedicated civil servant. They sure wouldn't be rich!
Problem with Congress is they START well above the huge majority of all civil servants and don't have to live by any of the rules. People think civil servants live on a real gravy train. The ones who WORK for a living sure don't. I could have made a BOAT LOAD more money working for Grumman, Lockheed, Boeing or a bunch of other companies who offered me jobs, but I CHOSE to work for the Navy and NASA because I believed I was doing was something important. There is more to life than a big pay check. I started my civil service on a ship in the Navy, then as an engineer for NAVAIR (GS-5 start) leaving the NAVAIR job as a GS-12 (doing TWO GS-14 jobs because we couldn't get anyone to do them for the pay). I was a GS-13 at NASA (doing a job that was supposed to be a GS-15 or SES-1) up until I retired. I didn't make real money till I went to work for a contractor after retirement. It took me 30 years to make enough to finish my Taylorcraft. If I had started out with a contractor (the job Boeing offered me when I graduated) I would own a Barron now and not a 41 Taylorcraft.
              Hank

No, I don't regret it at all. I got to defend my country for almost 20 years and then got to send us to the stars. Worth EVERY PENNY I never saw. Plus, I have flown a Barron and a KingAir now and I like the Taylorcraft better!

What I meant by, look in the mirror, is we have always had the choice to elect individuals that could and would have kept us out of this mire. But we have always voted main stream. I too am guilty, I have looked at who I thought would genuinely do a good job but that would have meant throwing my vote away and allowing someone who I really did not want to win being elected. So I will say again, we have who we deserve/elected! L

What is worse is getting a President that the majority did not elect. In the case of "Little Bush" (as the Chinese call him) he was elected by the supreme court (one vote) which is far worse! Currently, the supreme court (lower case) has decided that corporations are "people". Well of course they are but....that is not how it was intended. Corporations consist of stockholders. So to be fair, each stockholder would be asked of their individual preference for who they would like the donation to be given to. While I was not a big fan of Al Gore, I can be SURE that he would not have gone into Iraq blindly as Bush 2 did. This caused most of the mire along with tremendous tax breaks which we could not afford then or now. Along with deregulation and the end of Glass Stegal, here we ARE! As for McCain-Obama votes, its easily researched that Obama-President Obama, buried McCain in the popular vote. Personally I might have voted for McCain if he had not come up with Palin who was, and is, just plain dumb! JC

At least you vote for your leader...we can't and don't. I don't know how the US voting system works, but over here we cannot even vote for the political party we wish to see in power...we have to vote for a local candidate of that party to represent us in National government.

If that particular candidate is an inept twat, I have to decide whether to vote for him (because I want his party to win) or A N Other (who will represent me better locally.

Democracy is a fine principle, eh?

There is a HUGE difference between a Democracy and a Democratic Representative Constitutional Republic. A representative Republic is governed by laws, not people. A democracy has been compared to 2 wolves and a sheep voting on what is for lunch (Benjamin Franklin). In a Republic, the sheep can legally own a gun. We are protected by LAWS, not a leader. A vast majority in the U.S. have never even read the Constitution and think we live in a Democracy. What scares me is that we have a bunch of nit wits in D.C. now who have also never read the Constitution. The founding fathers in America SPECIFICALLY DID NOT want a democracy and the word "democracy" NEVER appears anywhere in the Constitution.
                          It's a great read.

Gee! I'm confused! If we are not a Democracy, then why did Bush 2 keep saying we were in Iraq so that Iraq could be a....Democracy? (He did not mention a Republic.) JC
