Re: Mystery Object
Several pretty good guesses...! What it is...is an aluminum can made to package "Monster" energy drink. With the bottom cut out, it was taped to the horizontal jury strut member (which was protected from tape residue with a piece of clear Tygon tubing[split endwise]. The lid was removed, so the drag is minimal when the device is empty. What it is used for...to hold a canister of Bear Spray when flying. I could probably fly for years without having a problem with an accidental release inside the plane, but I just don't like the stuff inside. My son is a cop and has been sprayed with it several times. From what he says, you just cannot function very well after being exposed to it... basically, you can't open your eyes. The spray can we carry is larger than most and I would hate to have it discharge or be punctured inside the plane. Maybe overkill, but outside I don't think it would ever be a problem. The floats we have don't have cargo hatches so this was the next best thing I could think of. Anyone else have a suggestion? DickLast edited by Dick Smith; 01-22-2011, 10:00.Dick Smith N5207M TF#159

Re: Mystery Object
Dick,
Your son is right, (been there when training, ouch!). I have never suffered pain so great as when getting sprayed with pepper spray. However, some folks it has no affect on. Not a good way to find out when flying, though, and you would not recover in time to find out...Cheers,
Marty

Re: Mystery Object
That's a great gaget Dick! I like it!
I've been pepper sprayed (in training) and to be honest I would rather be shot than go through that again. Personally I carry a handgun (a super redhawk in .480 ruger), knowing my luck if I had spray the bear and the wind will be coming from the same direction.TF #1030
