    The Beriev design bureau has been building flying boats for some 60 years. Apparently they have figured out how to make stuff work correctly.

    The Beriev 200 suffers only from the same aesthetics problems that plague most other Russian aircraft when viewed by Western eyes

      It wouldn't be ugly if you were in a fire and it was opening your escape route with that drop! Actually, for a sea plane I think it is kind of pretty.

        Man. I need a couple hundred million roubles and a multi-engine seaplane rating. I especially like the cool dude at 2:24 in the video. Crazy Russians.

        I agree. Just 'cause its different doesn't make it ugly. Functionality is beauty, too!

          If yo want to see more russian aircrafts up close Go to Flikr.com and search for "Clashmaker"he is a russian pilot working for West Jet.
          Nice fellow I meet up with him in Calgary last summer.(;f
          He visited some Ukrinian airshows and posted pictures.
          Also the first russian homebuilt, what story is worth reading, you find it on his blog.
