Re: 460 V8 powered Taylorcraft
That's nothing...
I have a R26-242X-powered project, that might be available for a Taylorcraft.
For those not in the know, the R26-242X is a 26,000 lb thrust rocket motor (of my own design) that I am hoping to use to put small objects into orbit. It has a 242 second [about 4 minute] burn time.
The fuel is a mixture of hydrogen and methyl-orthophosphate, with some secret ingredients, comprising mostly of pepper & curry powder, with a bit of black powder thrown in. The oxidant is a custom mix of oxygen with inhibitors and accelerants, solidified at super-cooled temperatures (my freezer's never worked so hard).
So far, I've lost my house, my eyebrows and my dog. But I thought it may make a good motor for a Taylorcraft pilot wishing to go short distances very quickly.
I'm looking for some serious investors to help me out financially (I think I've licked the technical issues).
Please send your bank details to 10-11235899456-02.
Rob
p.s. Can anyone tell me how to make good my ruined ceilings?

26,000lbs. thrust in a 800lb. vehicle, means straight up at 30 Gs

One of the "off the wall" powerplants I'd like to experiment with on a Taylorcraft is the Italian Simonini 2 stroke engine, the "Victor 2 Plus" which you can find on www.simonini-flying.com
They have apparently resolved some of the big 2-stroke issues, and have achieved some amount of reliability. The 102HP engine weighs 100 or so pounds with accessories, radiator and water, and is geared to be able to swing a fairly high-thrust propeller. Runs on car gas or biodiesel or whatever. If you believe their brochure the thing burns about the same or less fuel as a 4 stroke, which is a lot better than the Rotax 2 strokes.
Imagine 100HP swinging a big prop on a T-craft that's 100 lbs lighter, running car gas!. Yeah, you'd need a longer engine mount and a new cowling... it would look like the T-craft equivalent of the PT-6 powered Pilatus Porter!
With VG's and a tall landing gear, you'd have astounding performance. Right up until the FAA asks to see the type certificate, that is...!Taylorcraft : Making Better Aviators for 75 Years... and Counting

Looking for a cheap way home, please. Anyone got any Taylorcraft wings for sale? Mine got slightly scorched, and the wingtips seem to have been slightly eroded away...
