Re: cork float gage & T-craft logo

Just more info. The previous owner of 44057 applied T-88 epoxy to the outside of my present cork float back in about 1990.

It still floats fine but the wire is pretty crusty. I have the ping pong ball float on my experimental but I never thought about using two pp balls or the aluminum weld rod. All pretty good ideas.

You need a "reader"...similar to Adobe...I'll think of it in a minute & post. They are CAD files. AutoCAD does a freebie reader...I'll research it tomorrow.

Regarding corks etc, we all need to be aware of aromatics in fuel.

In the EU (bless them ) we are getting to the stage where auto fuel is being so stuffed up with alcohol & other additives (to 5 percent) that they are going to ban the use of auto fuel in a lot of aero engines (Rotax being the main ones, which will accept 3 percent aromatics but no more...and some of you may know that Rotax engines do not like 100LL without a reduction in maintenance intervals).

In turn, the aviation bodies here are negotiating with refineries to produce MOGAS without additives.

These same aromatics can dissolve Shellac (& other coatings) on cork fuel gauges.

The best corks to use are those that come in "home wine making kits". It's called natural cork. They have no coatings, and are unaffected by gas, auto gas, MOGAS, AVGAS, AVTUR, JP2, JP4, JP45, and they come in convenient shapes (although the central hole is a bit larger than necessary).

There's a lot of folk here advocating plastic corks...where's the good ol' type certificate when you need it, eh?

To read the .dxf and .dwg files, you can download a free reader here.

You would need to ask your vinyl cutting supplier what file types they can use. If they are not the above, let me know & I'll try to get a version in that format done.

              here fellas,

I converted the .dxf to a .pdf. Most of you should be able to view it in .pdf format.

and your sign shops will prefer it be .eps so I converted it to .eps here as well (version 8 .eps, very compatible)

Regarding fuel corks... a couple months ago we bought a Piper Cub fuel cap and float from Wag Aero. The cap fit the Tcraft fuel filler neck perfectly and the float is made of molded plastic. The whole unit is PMA'd (but I did have to snip the end of the wire to match the length of the Tcraft wire.

What size are the corks? I have a supply of 1 1/4" diameter by 2" long corks, epoxy coated, with a 1/8" hole bored lengthwise. If they'd be of use, I'd need to get $2.00 each for them, mailed anywhere in the US. PM me if they're of interest.

                        Hi Rob,
I hope all is well with you!
I saw this post from several years ago regarding the .dwg and .dxf format files for the Taylorcraft logo.
Could I get the files so I can have a stencil made for my tail?
                        Thanks for your help!

                          Re: T-craft logo

This is the files I have for "T" logos. The top one is early pre-WW-II, the second is a later one, the third (big) one is the post war and the bottom one was from 1941 (pre-war for us and WW-II version for the Brits (you guys got started before us and we were late to the party)
The second photo is of my tail. I couldn't find a company that could get the color tight so I painted the logo by hand with a fine tip brush.
