  • New Windshield for N96043

Not finished yet but very close to having a new Windscreen on the Taylorcraft! I still have to drill the holes for the screws but the fitting is done to include the brand new original style seal around the bottom. (my old was is definitely serviceable if anyone is in need? No charge, just shipping?) The trimming/fitting process was not nearly as painful (it was time consuming! probably test fit the window over a dozen times?) as I was afraid it would be. Extremely excited to have a clean, clear view out the front!

Where is the gasket that is supposed to be sticking out the lower faring? Tim

      Tim,

Good eye. These pictures were taken while I was finishing the 'fitting' process. Plan to do the final install today. I will post new photos with the coating removed as well.

          Greg,

Congratulations on what looks like a job well done! A couple of years ago I removed my windshield and used Micro-Mesh to remove the scratches. It was very gratifying to take off looking through a crystal clear windshield. Very nice pictures too. I am sure you will enjoy flying her a little more with a better view out front!

            Thanks Richard,

It made such a huge difference!! I also replaced the solid passenger window with a new slider. I still have to replace the old pilot side slider. I noticed that the pictures I posted were prior to reinstalling the glare shield. Here are a couple of pics with that reinstalled and one with the cover I bought to help protect the new window/interior. Really nice cover!!

Great job. I too like the color. I also noticed the good looking Navion behind you in one of the photos. Whose is it? I don't recognize it and I should know all the Navions around Houston. Mine is based at Hooks.

                    Greg,

That Navion belongs to Jason McNeely based out of spoort flyers just northwest of Houston Executive. I was renting a space in his hangar before I moved to Westheimer airpark. It is a nice Navion and they fly it quite a bit.

Thanks for the comments about my BC12-D! It is a labor of love. I am just about to have the other 3 cylinders overhauled and replace all the front cowling with new upper and lower skin and the NOS nose bowl I found a couple months ago. Plenty of other upgrades if I can get around to them? Including a headliner and bubble faced compass with original mount for the cross braces. Will keep pictures updated (assuming I remember?!).

Westheimer airpark, OMG! I was a flight instructor there about 30 years ago. That was in it's heyday. The last time I was there, several years ago, it was so run down I had to leave. I am surprised to hear it is still in operation. At one time there were over a dozen flight instructors working there 14-16 hours a day seven days a week. It was a beehive of activity at the time.
