Or at least kept it over the flatter ground. You almost always catch a down draft when ya go from green grass to tree covered ground especially in higher mountain country. However, the most important thing is that there was no serious injurys.

He should have quit long before the trees. Overweight with 4 adults, aft cg, underpowered, all make a bad combination. lucky to be alive

Thanks for sharing that video, Its those type of videos that really show how important it is to know your aircraft and its limitations, Thanks again

Did I or did I not see a lift off and then a settling in to ground contact again? Very easy to watch something like this with 20/20 vision, but as said above, it is important to know your aircraft and its limitations. L

Yes, I saw that too. I thought he was off the end of the runway, but after he became airborne again, I saw the end go by. This should have been the first clue things were not going well.

Its a great flyer. Don't know which engine was in this one. The one I flew sometime ago had a 180 conversion from 160 Franklin. It would have hauled those fellows out of there with ease. Its a real Cadillac in the air. They ARE very lucky! I agree with Ragwing. This fellow should have called it a day wayyy back there! JC

Density altitude! that is all you have to say, hot day, high altitude, max load--not gonna happen.
