Any of you that have had the 500 inspection performed on your Slick mags, I would like to hear about your experience as far as how much you paid and what all they actually did to your mags. If you had a positive experience and would recommend the shop you used, I would appreciate their address and phone number.

Re: Slick Mags 500 hr inspection
I had a set done by my local mechanic. There is a resistance test for the coil, inspect or replacement of the points, inspection or replacemnet of the rotor, replacement of the "rubber" block. My understanding of the standard price is $250 plus parts, typically the cost is $400 per mag. I paid far less.Ray

Re: Slick Mags 500 hr inspection
Ray,
Do you mind telling me how much you paid? That is what I am trying to find out, how much people are actually paying to have their mags inspected. Also, the items you listed, is that what is required of the service bulletin? Or do they just open up your mags and do what needs to be done based on what they see? Do you, or anyone else, have someone they would recommend to have this S.B. complied with.Richard Pearson

Re: Slick Mags 500 hr inspection
You can send them off to Aircraft Magneto Service at Boeing Field. They come back tested and will last another 500 hours. I wont nickle and dime mags. Its amazing how many people think that mags are junk because they fail but never had a 500 hour service. I have one friend that will run them until 1 fails then only get it repaired. He said I was wasting money getting the 500 hour service and they should be "run to fail". I think that philosophy will get him killed some day. TimLast edited by astjp2; 04-22-2012, 10:24.N29787

I totally agree with you Tim. I sometimes go over terrain that would not be suitable for an off airport landing. If you are waiting until it fails to service a mag, you are spending the money for the mag. Plus you risk spending extra for the inconvenience of doing it away from home, not to mention the danger it poses.Last edited by Pearson; 04-22-2012, 20:25.Richard Pearson
