Yes, Hank...we are very fond of BIG MARSHMALLOW tires around here. None of the really GOOD fishing and hunting spots have runways!
Paul...the standard rule in Alaska for carrying a .357 (or pretty much anything else smaller than a .454 Casull or .50 Desert Eagle) for bear protection is "save the last bullet for yourself!" My personal preferrence is a Mossberg 500 12ga shot gun with a pistol grip loaded alternately with buckshot and slugs.

Thanks for sharing the pictures and video. Looks like a blast. It is great to see the Taylorcraft folks around the country sharing this really cool common bond... and it seems wherever you go the fellowship is good, the food is good, the flying is good... and the dogs have fun too! We are blessed in this land... truly blessed.

Thanks to Jim, we had a great time in Skwetna again this year. The food was better, with Susan Hartley bringing delicious cookies and potato salad, and Jim Brewer grilling his brats and some donated moose dogs. I think there were 10 T's, 2 Citabrias and a 185. We won't mention who won the flour bombing contest, since it was an off-brand plane, but the bombing was hotly contested this year with Wolf-Lake Larry and his wife being the top T-craft competitors. Dick Smith wins the honors for making the most crowd members move out of the way with his bombing skills. Good job on the organizing Jim. How about posting some photos when you get a chance. I forgot my camera.

Jim, I wanted to add my thanks to you for again putting together the "Great Skwentna Taylorcraft Flyin". I really enjoyed meeting more of the Alaskan "Tribe" and seeing their planes.
One thing that was missing...but didn't really bother me, was the absence of mosquitos! I don't think I saw a single one...but I was prepared...had a box in the plane with this arsenal. Probably should have had a "hazmat declaration" on board! We could have run the definitive bug dope test...but alas, no mosquitos. Maybe next year. If we got Hank up here, we could use him for test "bait"! Dick

I think a kilt would be appropriate. I think Dick Smith would agree on this. Practical as well. You would just have to perfect your technique for entering and exiting your Tcraft so as not to offend anyone.

Ach! I am a Scott by heritage an me Tartan is of the Clan Hay. If anyone be offended by me showing of the family staff and jewelry at the Taylorcraft door, they kin kiss the blarney stones next to the great brown well! If I'm wearin me Kilt I won't be needing the Mossberg. I'll have my Sgian Dubh for show and a Judge Taurus .45 & 410 in the Sporran. ;-)

Try some Aberlour Speyside single malt. Smaller distillery with a really smooth fresh tasting highlands Scotch. Can't understand the people who drink blends or that lowlands stuff that tastes like it was filtered through dirt.

If you use ice, be sure it is the hard crystal clear stuff. Can't ever tell what the fish might have been doing in that cloudy regular ice.
