    Re: Physics lesson needed?

By any chance is there a point in the fuel line to the second wing tank that is higher than the present level of fuel in the other wing tank? Like where it goes up and over a part of the fuselage tubing? Unlikely I know, but...

What keeps the fuel from rising out of the header tank into the vent line?

I would think it would. At least until the level reached the level in the wing tanks. As long as there is a clear path up to atmospheric pressure above it, it shouldn't cause a problem. The only problem is if the outlet from the vent is lower than the fuel level in the highest tank.

I have heard that some break the vent line in the pilots line of sight and insert a short length of plastic tubing, when the fuel drops below the clear tubing they know they only have the 2 gallon header tank of fuel remaining.

Actually sounds like a neat idea, as long as you make REALLY SURE the tube is safe with gas AND ALCOHOL. Bad enough to find out they are sneaking alcohol into your fuel from all the normal problems, even WORSE to find out as the plastic tube splits open and dumps fuel all over the cockpit because it couldn't take the alcohol!

I would WANT to make the mod, but I WOULDN'T unless it was approved. But you guys all know me.
