Re: C85 Engine up grade on n26658

    Chuck,
sounds good. Just curious... do you always fly in cruise at full throttle? Or are you doing this to break in the engine and check cooling? How many hours do you have on the engine now? If you are still breaking in the rings, the CHTs should come down some after they wear in better. This will also have a very small effect to bring down oil temp a little too. In FAA testing, the cooling test requirement calls for a full throttle climb at gross weight after temps stabilize for 5 minutes and then correct the temperatures to a 100`F hot day conditions. To do that you need to record your altitude and OAT. Try that sometime and send me the numbers, I will do the hot-day correction and let you know what kind of REAL temperature margin you have using the FAA method.

Terry 6hr total time now still braking it in and well i always run a engine full throttle for brake in the rpms are coming up it now will turn 2500 so the prop is close to right pitch so far no oil consumption to speak of the temps are stable and a 107 kt ground speed is grate will try the climb test and collect the data and let you know. the baffles seem to be working well I will keep on posting numbers Chuck

            Hey Chuck,

How many hours did you put on it in the last year. Those compressions are really good. Are those cylinders chrome or steel?

Well we flew 20 hr this annual after all the work was short of gas money better this year i hope. The cylinders are ECI steel and was very happy with them, put new prop on it's a sensenich 76-ak-4 witch comes out 72/40 pitch 2400 RPM static i think it will do just what i want it to do let the engine turn and make horse power

Never heard of the 76ak-4, it's a true 72" prop?

Sometimes the repair facility will modify the prop markings. Sensenich has a memo on this practice.

It was probably a damaged 76 inch prop and cut down to 72 from what i see. Marv

Maybe, but it could have come from Sensenich like that. To get the 72" prop they start with a 76" prop blank. That way they don't have to have so many different blanks.

It could have come from Sensenich, but I've never run across a factory new prop that was shortened 4 inches from full length. Most are shortened 2 inches from full length. I think Sensenich would probably build any thing you want.
I posted the link to show that strange things happen once the prop is in use.

I bought this prop off barn stormers no history other then it was off a j3 cub with a C85 and the cub owner wanted a cruse prop and did some trading with the person i bought it from. The prop is the right length for a tcraft with a C85 as per type cert and is in very good shape. Also Sensenich did build a 76AK-4 from the factory.

Well got to fly the plane with the new prop today. Take off full throttle 100 ft roll and was flying engine turning 2450 rpms climb 1400 ft per min at 60 mph.level flight 2600rpm 112 mph indicated. Very happy with it will fly it and see what it does on cross country.
