After looking at Marty's pics I think option #2 is correct?

              Re: Step

Speaking of steps, did you ever get a load of the step on an L2. I,m sorry that I don't have a picture to post. I'm sure that it was carried over from the civilian DC series built for the CPT program prior to our entry into WWII. People must of had really small feet and wore no shoes in those days because I wear size nine sneaker and if really work at it I can sometimes can actually wedge my foot in it. I don't use the step because the L2 is an awkward airplane to get in and out of and I'm afraid that if I ever lose my balance, I don't think that I'll be able to get my foot out in time to catch myself and I will break all my toes when I wind up falling on my back, not to mention cracking my skull. Also when I finally get into a position to actually enter the airplane I can't get my wedged foot back out of the tiny step without a lot of wiggling and effort. However, I don't think the Army had a problem with it since I don't think that they ever made a boot small enough to wedge in it in the first place. Perhaps an L2 owner has a picture to post and make you laugh.

                Re: Step

                Bob,

I had an L-2 and never had a problem, (size 11). I have a couple of gear legs here at the house in storage. I will have to dig out the right one and look. Maybe the day they made yours they were short of material??? As opposed to the BC-12, I always used the step on the L-2 to get in, it was the only way for me.
                Cheers,
                Marty

Perhaps someone did what I'm going to do....lengthen it.
