    Re: Step

    Joe,

I think the step is cast, or welded or something similar. They are available from Wag-Aero. See here: http://store.wagaero.com/product_inf...ducts_id=14488
    Cheers,

      Re: Step

They are welded and come up on eBay every once in a while. There seems to always be a few spare ones floating around in the tribe. Make sure you get a left and a right and put them on the correct sides! They will go on backwards, but are kind of hard to use and it is a pain to pull the strut to fuselage bolts to switch them if you don't need to.

Or so I have been told. Of course I would NEVER put them on the wrong sides!

Original step without going to the airport I'm guessing it's the pilot side. A picture of one on an airplane would be nice to see.

            Joe,

Go to my video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cTQD_yPybok

about 1:26 into the video you can see the step. After you get the time close move the pointer away so it will show the complete step. Hope that helps.
            Cheers,
            Marty

I have a pic from Marty's Taylorcraft. I took it at the Barber field fly in last year. I would post it but having big time problems uploading to this site. If I had your email I would send it to you that way. Or send me a email [email protected]

I think it is yours Marty. My wife and I were talking to you and you offered to take my son for his first Taylorcraft ride, but Ken M. beat you to it. My project was disassembled when I got it. So I was taking pics of how things went together, tail feathers, steps etc.
                    I really like your airplane!

Thanks guys one last question, from the picture it looks like the step angles back towards the fuselage is that correct? I don't want to do the right left thing.

                          Re: Step

When the step is on the correct side the step strut will angle away from the fuselage. If it is on the wrong side it will tend to roll down and under the longeron more and be harder to use. It isn't a huge difference....until you are trying to use it.
I don't remember looking that close, but I thought the step itself was pretty much parallel to the bolt holes so it will look like it is angled out from the longeron because of the curve of the longeron just aft of the strut attach.

If That description doesn't confuse you, nothing will.

I am probably going out to the hangar tomorrow, I will try to do a couple of shots from different views.
