  • What goes here?

I can't figure out what attaches to the nutplates in the attached photo. I could use some help on what goes there and what does it look like.
    Thanks, Norm G

If the arrows are pointing to the two tangs with holes, the the kick panel between the seat and the floor, screws into those and others like them. h

But the nut plates appear to be on the wrong side of the tangs.

Thats what the tabs are for, the kick plate between the floor & under seat area.
Why the nutplates are on the wrong side is ???
Is it possible someone installed them wrong?

OOps, just went to the barn to look at the '39. They are not for the kick panel...... they sit back too far aft for that. On mine, the bottom of the kick panel screws into a piece of ~1/2"x1/2" wood running laterally across and attached to the floorboards I'm thinking that the rear edge of the floor boards had blocks of some sort to keep them from moving around? There is no nut plate on mine just holes. And this still wouldn't explain the nutplates on the fwd side of the tabs???? They weren't being used when I took it apart. A baggage compartment floor? hmmmmm

How was that rear fuel tank mounted? Under the baggage compartment? Just a thought.

                Howard,
It seams that your,39 has the same comfiguration as my,41.the nutplates are on the back side of the tube that supports the kick panel and under the seat sling. The kick panel is to the rear of the floorboard, those aren't the the nutplates in my photo. It's driving me nuts trying to figure out what should go there that would have any usefullness.
                Thanks, Norm G

They are just like your Appendix. They are there, but have no use. One airplane I looked at had no nutplates, but they were folded over the floor board. I've never seen anything attached to them, and my dad hadn't either. Tom

                    Hi Norm G,
Yeah, it's hard to see in my fuzzy pic. You can see the back of the kick panel and how it rests on the floor boards, and the small strip of wood that it is attached to down there. My 'appendix' ;-) tabs do not have the nut plates...........And you can see how we are saving weight by only using one screw to hold the top of the kick panel. heh heh..... h

I believe the tabs should be bent forward to the horizontal position and that the floor board is then screwed down to the tabs.

I would listen to both Tom Bakers, they have experience restoring Taylorcrafts, including a beautiful pre-war that was an award winner. If they say they aren't used, I would bet they weren't used.
                        Cheers,

I think they need folded 90 degrees forward for the floorboard ? they seem to have a bulge that some one folded them backward... I can look later this afternoon. Ryan & Tim Newell are coming out. IF they are wearing their Carharts , I will send them out into the blowing snow & cold air to look at theirs & mine. .

I was wearing my Carharts yesterday, and looked at both my BC12D and Forrest's F-19. All tabs were present and sticking up. My BC12D had a screw boke off in one of them. Forrest's F-19 however has the original interior and those tabs have NEVER had a screw run through them...

I bet they are a dual function part.

What I mean is that the same part is used elsewhere on some Taylorcraft (A,B,L2...) and half of it also worked for this application so they used it here rather than make new part.

Is a similar metal strap used on and A or B model somewhere? as a clamp? mount? ...
