    Re: Pre-war instrument panel placard

That electrical switch was a light switch in 41 and 45. There was a different knob on the single mag planes but I don't know if that switch was ever used for ignition with the different knob. The knob in the old pictures is the same as on a Farmall tractor mag switch that is still in use. It was a pull to close switch (which would mean ignition was grounded when the knob was pulled and hot when pushed in). That is kind of nice since you could put a little hanger clip on the shaft to prevent the switch from getting bumped and making the ignition hot.

My Dad glued emery (sp) cloth to a valve to do his American Eagle cowling , It was used to cover up any blemishes . the "crinkle paint" was made here in Alliance at the Stewart Bros. paint company. I had some made up again about 15 years. ago. they are now out of business.

I do not think the panel that appears to have been "engine turned" is an original finish at Taylorcraft. They used the "crinkle paint" quite a bit , it eliminated glare.

Re the instrument panel, I don't think that's engine turning, it's too dark for natural aluminum, it looks to me like some kind of swirled paint process. I've done plenty of engine turning on my old plane...

I think it looks more like the vinyl/plastic sheet they use to cover accordions.
