  • Phenolic tube

Does anyone know where to get the phenolic tubing that goes into the the fuselage where the aieleron cables come thru and attach inside. There is a guide that these things run thru and that is where I need to replace the guide.

Good morning Ray. I got mine from Forrest Barber at the Foundation. If you want to take a different approach, do a search here for "fair leads", there is quite a discussion about making them yourself. I went the easy route, since Forrest had a large number of them in stock.

Buy some solid phenolic rod from Univair (or others) and get it machined to suit. It's the same dimensions as the rudder cable guides in the fuselage.

I used cub ones, just cut off the old tubes and welded on new tubing to fit the cub style.

Check out an industrial supply like McMaster-Carr or the other one whose name escapes me.

I believe that the phenolic tubes are all standard size electrical insulation raw stock or industrial raw stock.

When I worked in a ball bearing factory in the 70's those phenolic tubes od all sizes were all around and were used to push races thru a centerless grinder.

Point being that I think its a common item.

This information was all available in the archive. I posted the part number from US Plastics and step by step instructions on making the fairleads. I'll have to go see if the old post is still there...
