I am ready to put a taylorcraft decal and N-numbers on my repaired and freshly painted airplane. Any one have a suggestion for suppliers of decals. I presume you get what you pay for?

    Re: decals

    Jim,

I would not do the decals that have the gloss clear around the letters. I would do the die cut, (or nowadays machine cut), vinyl lettering. The best is 3M that usually has at least a 7 year outdoor life, but I guarantee you it lasts a lot longer. The individual letters have a carrier sheet you remove after applying. I apply them with a spray of water with a few drops of soap and then squeegee them on and let them dry. You remove the the carrier and there is nothing left between the individual letters and numbers. Any sign shop can make these for you. For precut Taylorcraft lettering I have bought them from here: http://avgrafix.com/

He can make anything you want, too. My 'Taylorcraft' lettering on both sides of my fin are the cheap glossy clear/black sticker. It doesn't look as good as the individual vinyl lettering.
    Cheers,
    Marty

        Jim,

I believe the gentleman at AvGrafix also includes instructions as I described, (but with more detail). Any questions, get ahold of me. I have done a lot of installation of these type of graphics.
        Cheers,
        Marty

Hi Jim, I agree with Marty about the vinyl decals. You might consider giving Charly Center a call. He has the computer and machine to make any decals you want. I had him do all of the decals for me and they turned out great. Glad to hear you are close to getting your bird back in the air. I thought about you today as I drove past the end of Anderson Lake strip in another vicious wind storm!

Marty, if you would email your phone number to me I will give you a call. I look forward to chewin the rag...

Rod, I had no idea that Charley did that. I will make a trip over to see him in a couple of days.

If you have time stop by Jason's Schmidt's hanger and check out the old girl. We work a few hours each on Fridays and Saturdays. She looks gorgeous with make up on, AKA, polyurethane paint. Installed wings and new Airframe sealed struts yesterday, waiting on windshield, will install new fuel lines and install landing gear, fairings, new floorboards, new dash panel, misc. over the next couple of weekends.

I look forward to seeing your Tcraft up close. I have seen pictures and I think that she is as pretty as they come. You guys did a nice job.

Local sign shop, then you can see what you are buying. 2" block numbers are legal for BC series aircraft...Tim

He's also looking for the Taylorcraft logo so he would have to have something for them to go by at a local shop.

Jim, Here are some old logos that I found when getting ready to do mine. I also have two stick-on tailfeather logos here in the hangar that I didn't use. They are the block letter style shown in black and white below. You are welcome to use them if you want. I had an old style logo embroidered into my seat (see photo) and it was done by an local shop here in Wasilla. If you are interested in that one, the electronic file is available. Charly also has a couple programmed into his computer.

I am pretty sure the third photo is of the ones I drew. I you need the dimensions for the decal shop I think I still have the original artwork around here somewhere.
