  • Toe brake pictures wanted

Hello all. I am looking for some pictures of either the factory toe brake master cylinder/pedal configuration used on the F series or anyone who has toe brakes installed on their BC series. I am in the process of installing hydraulic brakes on my BC12D and would like to see how the master cylinders are anchored as well as the pedal configuration. I need to get the geometry correct. I've got the wheel and gear part figured out and just need to get the top end done. Thanks.

piece of 3/4 90* angle steel welded to the tubing in front of the rudder pedals, cessna rudder pedals(or something that looked like them), and cleavland master cylinders is what was in our F-21 from the factory.

OK...thanks. I'm gonna mock up that cross member and measure the clevis to piston rod end distance. Master cyls come in a variety of sizes and I want to make sure I get the leverage distance right.

            Hi Rod,

Great to hear from you. I forgot your tail number so I couldn't drop you a message here. Yeah....I'm just about there with the brakes. Grove had the axle adapters, calipers and torque plates. I messed around with hooking master cyls up to those dinky heel pedals and finally decided I wanted brakes I could use wearing bunny boots. Thanks for the help....and I look forward to seeing you at the Kustitan strip this summer.

Chris, here a few pics of my toe-brake installation. This is very close to the same set up that Larry showed in the pics he attached (in fact, Charly Center did both airplanes). The pedals are from a C-150. The cross bar in Larry's picture was bolted in with clamps. In my airplane, we welded in the cross bar when the fuselage was opened up for repairs, inspection, and painting. I have the F19 gear, so I didn't need the adapters for tapered axles. I went with double puck Cleveland brakes because of the 29's. I really like the brakes ... work well. Good luck with the installation and I'll see you on a river bank somewhere.

Yes, I'm on skis, but we've been seeing horrible winds here in Wasilla. I'm getting tired of this weather!

I used a modified pacer pedal, sheetmetal or cast pedals just dont look right...Tim

F-21 used 10-5c and 10-19 cleveland master cylinders, single puck calipers and straight axle gear. I have the drawings somewhere. Tim

                      Re: Toe brake pictures wanted

We have the Cessna 150 brake setup in our BC12D. The installation isn't perfect in that it doesn't really fit all that well. The right master cylinder has to have the shaft shortened by a half inch and if the rudder is fully deflected, it pushes on the opposite brake pedal (against the fuselage tubing). It for sure wouldn't work with bunny boots. The brakes are very effective however and even with it's faux pas it beats the heel brakes.

I don't have any pics but my T has a setup very close to both of the cessna pedal systems pictured above. Mine also has a clamped in tube for the lower mounts. I have single piston calipers I think from old 172 with some custom axles welded over the tapered ones.

Thanks to all those you responded. I have enough pics and info to move forward with the project.

Get your field approval BEFORE you actually modify something and fly it. Then modify per the 337. Tim

                              Tim,

In the pictures of your brake set up, it looks like the fittings stick out quite a ways from the master cyliinders. Do you still have full pedal travel without the fittings hitting the firewall? Other than that concern, it looks like a great set up.
