I finally got around to taking my engine to the Signature a few weeks ago for inspection. The bad news is they say the crank is cracked in two places at the oil slinger and there are holes where the engine data plate is attached to the engine (weird). So guess I'm looking for some suggestions here. Anyone know a good place to purchase a crank and fix the case?

Re: Crankshaft/Crankcase
Crank in a C-90 I bought was cracked in the same place, got a new 0-200 crank from G & N somewhere in KY, heard Don Swords at OSH last year, the price has doubled in 3 years, it seems continental has a service bulletin on a fix for too deep of hole, it is a often found mistake, if I have time at work tomorrow, I'll try and find that SB, Tom

Re: Crankshaft/Crankcase
If you're in that deep, I'd never waste my time with another C85 crank...I'd spend a couple dollars more and get an O-200 crank, etc. and go with the STC for the extra ponies!
Just my opinion.

Re: Crankshaft/Crankcase
Divco can repair the case as long is it isn't in more than 40 or 50 pieces.
Are you saying the holes go through the case? The plate is secured with drive screws, so there should be blind holes there.

Re: Crankshaft/Crankcase
I just found out today that there was a issue when they took the data plate off. I won't know until Thursday what they found. I spoke with DIVCO and they said it is a common problem so sounds like they have seen it. Lucky the case was not in pieces! Then again $750 to fix it seems pricy too me!

Re: Crankshaft/Crankcase
You guys have pricked my memory.
About 10 years ago I bought a new crankshaft from G & N for a C90 that I am working on (very slowly).
I am pretty sure that it also fits an O-200.
I just looked in a continental SB that listed drive train components and it showed different PN's for O-200 and C90 crankshafts.
I am confused anybody have a good knowledge of this? I hope I have the correct crank shaft.
But even if I don't it is a very good investment!

Re: Crankshaft/Crankcase
Divco does very good work. $750 to repair/yellow tag the case sounds reasonable....they have repaired cases for sale...prices are way up. Have the accessory case and oil pump gears looked over. My last job at Divco they welded and redrilled the oil pump well. DocDoc TF #680

Re: Crankshaft/Crankcase
I think the 90 case has to be modified for the 0-200 crank. We had that done on the 90 in a clip wing here.

Re: Crankshaft/Crankcase
The -8 and -12 both use the same crank. The original C90 crank has a slightly different oil slinger from the O-200 crank. The O-200 crank is the right part to replace the C90 crank. The case mod is trivial and Divco will probably do it as a matter of course, although it doesn't hurt to ask.
The case from Divco for $750 will be as good as new. I have sent cases in pieces and they work miracles.
