  • Aileron Push Tube Ball Sockets

Anyone know where I can get new ball sockets for the aileron push tubes? At least I think that is what they are called. It is the ball socket that attaches to the aileron and the push tube coming out of the wing.

    Thanks.

Ps. This was originally posted to a blog by mistake, not sure the visibility of it there.

Visibility on the blog area is LOW! The little threaded plugs with a spherical socket in the end is something a lot of the guys have in their "bits-n-pieces" box. The tubes are pretty easy to damage and I would think most of us would take the plug out and save it. I can take a picture of the whole thing taken apart if it will help but I need to dig in my junk box to see if I have any.

Here's a photo of the assembly. Do you seek the items arrowed in yellow (ball) or socket (red)?. Note that there are two sockets, one inside and the other outside.

It is the ball. We haven't taken apart yet but to me that is where it appears the problem lies. Our mechanic said it might be the bracket however when I look at it I see the "washer" that is part of the shaft of the ball has cracked and parts of it are missing which has led to there being play where it connects to the bracket. For now that is the hope I'm holding to anyway, trying to avoid cutting into the fabric of the aileron if possible.

If either of you have the part I would truly appreciate it.

        Thanks.

That washer part you describe has wrench flats on it. Are you sure you're not mistaking those for "missing" pieces?

We talked about possible wrench flats. I recall it looks like where the pieces are missing it is jagged which is what led to the conclusion that part cracked off. I was going to try to get out to look at it again with with with better light and maybe a better set of eyes but haven't made it yet. Our hangar is a ways from home so it might not be until Thanksgiving until I get there to look again. I took a bunch of pictures so I'll look at those hopefully this weekend to see if I can see anything on those.

            Thanks for the suggestion.

Thanks. Anyone have current contact infor for Forrest? I haven't received a response from the email and phone number that I have on file. I started with him first a few weeks ago. The last time I contacted him he was very responsive which was several years ago so my guess is the contact info I have may no longer be current. Thanks.

I have been looking for these also. Any one have any drawings on this assembly? With the drawings I think I could get some made. Even a rough sketch with the center to center measurements on the holes, and the size of the tubing and ball ends.

I got in touch with Forrest today. He has the ball studs and figures the price will around $10 as previously stated. He said best to email him at [email protected] email. He said he works on foundation business Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoons so keep that in mind if you need to talk to him.
