Re: Airspeed indicater reads too high

If that tube is hooked up to the static line you would get a higher airspeed indication because the way it is oriented would produce a partial vacuum. Your AI will know how to check it all out without damaging anything. By the way, fairly economical airspeed indicators with a more applicable range and much better resolution are available.

There is a ty-wrap just inside the small hole on the wing. Maybe the two lines got reversed when they put it together and it was easier to change the right there.

I totally agree with flyguy...that'll produce a slight vacuum. I've seen people do the same with their engine vent without a freeze notch in it, and then complain when it's pulling oil....

My static vent is located between the left front door and cowling and works perfect. I have never seen one like yours.

Hey thanks Dennis for that information. Maybe I should check it more closely. It wasn't hooked up there when I got the airplane so I suspect the previous owner couldn't get it to work right. I would think the air flow there would be "loose" what with coming off the nose; exact location might be critical. I might fool with it some as an engineering kind of exercise. You can never know too much about your airplane.

Thanks again everyone. I will run it past my AI........I would like it to read correctly.............Don in SC

That IS strange looking. I watch airspeed on takeoff, climb at about 60, level off, put power on 2150 and don't look at it again. I'm pretty sure its NOT going to hit 100mph. and I'm in no hurry anyway which is a good frame of mind to be in in a T-Craft because your going pretty slow no matter what you do. On landing I glance at the airspeed downwind. Its usually around 70,. and then I never look at it again. I can tell that I'm a little fast and I like it that way incase the little bugger quits on final, I can make the runway. Thats a good looking airplane! SHARP! JC
