    Re: lifting eyes

Best way is to remove top cowl...lift at the engine mount with an engine hoist.

Make sure you lift back at the firewall part of the engine mount if you do it that way.

Love those multi-purpose boom trucks. Ours has a Tulsa bed and has seen some strange things hanging behind! L

Larry, that old rig is really handy. I used it recently to install new Airframes Alaska LLC sealed lift struts. It has an old Case backhoe mounted on it that has a hydraulically- driven winch instead of a bucket. For the plane, I usually use the chainfall on the A-frame boom. It gives you control to the fraction of an inch. My 4 boys are really subtle when it come to that rig..."Dad, when you die, can we have the boomtruck?" Dick

                Re: lifting eyes

A while back I used a "engine" hoist to hold up one side of the plane at a time on my 12D by looping an adequately strong chain through the engine mount at the firewall. It worked very well. You should be careful as not to concentrate the stress on too small an area. I imagine separate double loops of 400 lb rated rope would work also and have less chance of scratching. If you have a hoist it is really quick and easy.

Understand I am talking holding ups one side using one arm of the mount at a time.

Those lifting eyes--as they do not pertain to flight is anything pertaining to FAA needed?
