  • Desperately Seeking Old Style Mag Switch

Long subject, but I am trying to purchase the old style Mag switch. So, if anyone has one to sell or know where I can purchase one, please let me know.

Also, thinking of installing in instrument com radio. Thoughts of which works best for the money. Been looking at Micro Air, Becker and Icom 200. Any other suggestions.

Completed my installation of my "Turbo Alternator" Seems to be working. Will take pictures and post them.

If anyone has a second old style mag switch, then contact me. I'll let Yellow Duck have the first since he asked first.

p.s. I was also looking at the Micro Air radio, I guess so far that would be my choice. It is specifically designed for low consumption, and all the pilots that I have spoken to so far have said it is a good radio.

      Radios and Turbo Alternater

We have two pilots at the airport here that are using the Micro Air radio, and transmissions from them are crystal clear. As to the Turbo Alternater, yes, please send photos Lee, I got one two weeks ago, and have yet to install it.

        Switch

Lee I have one you can have. It was given me trouble and I replace it. I took it apart and clean it and it seems fine now. You are welcome to it if you want it.

          Yellow and Andy,
I found an old original mag switch in an old coffie can full of AN hardware today. It looks a little rough(needs cleaned up&painted)but it seems to turn through all the positions. You guys can have this one too, just tell me which one of ya gets it.
I don't know where it came from or where it has been, for all I know it could have been the only part of the panel that didn't melt in the fire(hehe),just kidding,I know it's not out of crispy critter.

            Mag/ Radio

            Thanks Vic. I'll take it.
As for the Radios. I understand the Micro Air has only 3.5 W output and the Becker has about 7W. Of course the Becker is abou 1/3 more in cost.

Anyone has any feed back on this

                FAO Crispy Critter,

Any chance of a photo of the switch, how many positions does it have (off, left, right, both) or (off, left, right, both, start)?

                Could be very interested.

                    Vic

Sounds good, call and let me know about when. Been giving a little instruction. Instruments to David, and Privates to my Grandson and my Son-in-law. All in the Cherokee tho.

Would like you to see my set up with the Alternator and battery. Now I have electrical for my intercom, radio and GPS. Great. Doesn't look to bad. As I said I will take pictures.

Still trying to finish my hangar (Barn) also.

                      Guys,
If any of you have these old mag switches that don't work reliably DON'T throw them away! I took a nice cosmetic switch (wasn't so nice when I started but looks like new now) and gutted it so I could put a KEYED mag switch behind it. The original is just a face plate and I can pull the switch lever out with a key epoxyed into it when I leave the plane. Looks like original and the A&P/IA likes it better than the original.
The key is REALLY uncomfortable in your pocket!

Kevin & Andy: I have merged your "Mag Switch" thread with this one.

Kevin, you need a little photo ("Avatar" in the vernacular) with your nom de plume so email me directly if you would like to know how to add one.
