For those of you in the path of the storm, best of luck to you all. I hope the planes are all tucked away nicely.

I took my wings off and decided to park it until next spring.

just remember, check your insurance policys.
mine requires us to move the airplanes out from the path of the hurricane.
(not much of an issue here in MI though)

Good luck to all in the path of Irene

"State of emergency declared in 6 states as Harriott approaches eastern seaboard"
        Source

America was on high alert last night as reports of the imminent arrival of category 5 tv chef Ainsley Harriott spread. The over-exuberant celebrity food person has already left a widespread trail of chaos and devastation throughout a large number of Carribean kitchens.

With the States already having been battered this year by the very windy Ramsey, and wildlife decimated by the whirlwind visit of the huge Fearnley-Whittingstall, citizens were hoping that the danger would subside once more to the gentle level of last year’s Delia, by many fear it is not to be.

‘This is the big one’ said one beleagured Maryland resident as he helped elderly residents to cover up every tv screen in the town. ‘We’ve had them before, I guess Grossman was the worst…and they’re still feeling the tail-end of that in the UK.’

‘Chef chasers’ have been advised not to get too close to Harriott ofter one hapless thrill seeker was swept away by a sea of figgy cous cous pudding coated in rasperry coulis.

No idea. Can't get to the airport yet. One piece of bad news, even with a hurricane rain, the fire in the Dismal Swamp is STILL NOT OUT!!! It is burning underground in the peat and they are going out today and start fighting it again. More choking on the smoke.

                Hank,

Don't forget the earthquake. All we are missing is a mudslide, and we could be in L.A.

We lost power and phones Saturday 7pm, just restored now-Tuesday 5am. Thank god for my diesel generator set (courtesy Verizon phone company takeout) I bought it used with only 200 hours on it, and it has saved my bacon many times over.

                  Re: Hurricane Irene

Glad that you have the generator John, out here, we have a total solar / wind system that supplys all our electrical needs. We don't have a land line phone, we have a cellphone, and use Skype on our computer which is linked to the internet via a WildBlue dish on the south side of the house.
All of that preparedness is almost a waste, as out here 90 miles east of El Paso, the only thing that we get, is little rain, and mind-numbing heat, but not as bad as when as when we lived 70 miles west of Phoenix. Brie

                    Brie,

We actually make a portable solar/wind generator that is trailer mounted. It's a NASA design, the base of the trailer is packed with 8D Gel batteries, and the cabinet houses the inverter and hydraulic controls.

here is some info about it:

                      Re: Hurricane Irene

That is one nice looking rig John. I have enough panels to make about 1.3K. and my two windplants generate 1.5K. All heating and cooling at the house that we built is done either with solar or propane for the hot water, propane for the Refridgerator and Freezer, and solar or propane for heated air in the winter. Colorado didn't get any hurricaine moisture, but I was deployed to New York State, to work in the State Emergency Operations Center in Albany, for two weeks. What a mess they have to deal with. I could use some air time to clear my head, but the 14-hour shifts pretty much preclude that from happening.

Here in central NH it was pretty much a bust. Don't know what I'm gonna do with all these cans of gas with alcohol in it...

50 miles west of here there are towns in Vermont still completely cut off from the rest of the world. Our house in Upstate NY was still without power as of yesterday afternoon.
