Anybody used screws to attach the fabric to the wings and have or know of supporting paperwork. Forgive me, I have asked this question before but I am now at the point of being ready to use it. Any help would be appreciated.

I just talked to Roger Kruser at 302-736-3447 who has the STC for using screws instead of other methods for attaching the fabric to the wings. He is a very nice person to talk with and more than willing to help. I am already past that point but thought this info might help someone else.Wayne Melvin

Huh? Who? What? Somebody call me? Sorry I was sleeping. Screws in wings? My wings on the 45 have wires bent so they clip into holes in the ribs. The 41 has built up ribs and is rib stitched. I was told once NOT to try and rib stitch the 45 sheet metal ribs. If you try it on a bare rib you will see that the edge of the rib will cut the cord. It DOESN'T WORK. You can't rib stitch a sheet metal rib safely. As to using rivets or screws in the rib, the 41 rib flange is too narrow. Can't be done. The 45 rib is wide enough and you could use the wire holes but the guy that has to recover the wing after you is going to curse your name for all eternity when he has to drill out all those rivets and if you use screws you will damage the holes and start a crack origination point in every hole. The guy after you will probably distroy a lot of the ribs in the process of drilling rivets and may end up ruining the wing (I would think screws would ruin the wing right up front). I would just use the wires like they did at the factory. Just DON'T pull the end of the wire to remove them!!!! It puts a tear in the edge of each rib hole and can ruin the rib as much as I would think a screw would.
If there is a STC for screws I would like to see how they addressed the damage to the holes a screw would cause.

I'm with Hank on this one. If I were to consider buying a used Taylorcraft and had two aircraft to choose from, I would NOT choose the one that used screws or had been rib-stitched on the stamped ribs. Only the wood and built up ribs should be stitched. I don't know why the wires are so scorned. It's quick and simple and original.

Are you Guys trying to CONVERT me using words like "simple " and "fast"?
My problem with the wire on my wing was that it bulged up and wore through the fabric covering in places after repeated washings . I tried to bend the wires to get them to lay down but the wire was so springy i ended up cutting them and laying the ends side by side and replacing the surfacing tape as a fix. Maybe it was the wrong wire, Stainless steel as i remember. Don't have it as i threw the stuff away after the wind storm collapsed the rear structs destroying the wings in the process.
BUTT being the religious person that i am and i try to "DO the right thing" for you guys, preach to me how to do it correct. You never know there might be a SLIGHT chance that a sinner a i could be drawn over from "the dark side" with your sweet talking words. FAST and SIMPLE ! VERY interesting!

If the wires were too long and bowed up they were the wrong wires. The spacing between the hooks on the Taylorcraft wires were closer together than the Martin clips. The Martin clips are NOT the right pitch and will bow up. I have heard some guys bent little "Zs" between the hooks to make them fit but what you really need is the correct Taylorcraft clips.
Anybody know where we can get the Taylorcraft clips? One of these days I will be ready to cover the 45 wings (yea, right, at this rate the 45 is going to be REALLY RARE by the time I have it ready).

Martin clips

Somewhere, at sometime, someone posted something on the forum about martin wire. If memory serves(which is unlikely in my case) they got the stuff from Acft Spc or some supply house and it didn't quite fit. I beleive that they modified it with a crimping tool. Something about the pitch not being correct. Then someone else had the same problem and got some ONS from Forrest and it worked out ok.Best Regards
