Dave, as one that has a LOT of experience with L-2 shock cord replacement I for one would be more than happy to let you install the cords. If you try do do it with a screwdriver you'll probably bury it in the farthest wall if it misses you. We made a tool using a six foot 2X6 tube and a 3 ton comealong and a fixture to attach to the comealong. Good luck. Dick

I thought this forum was a medium to share info to keep these old birds flying. I have asked many time for a drawing, picture, anything around the L2 bungee tool. Still no joy.. I guess DRUDE pretty much summed it up in his reply.. If I had a picture or drawing of one I would certianly share it with the tribe..

            Re: Hey Forrest

The Foundation has incredible assets. The problem is they are distributed by one person who actually has a life and a business to run too. Forrest has more irons in the fire than I do and I have things fall off the table and get forgotten all the time! I can't tell you how many times someone has asked for information from me and by the time I find it I can't remember who wanted it or where I was asked. I am just getting old and having trouble keeping up with everything. That and you have to remember that my FIRST priority is to my family, then the NASA projects I am working, with my Taylorcraft and the Tribe in third. Forrest and the others who make their living at this do a great job, but they have things slip (sometimes a LOT) and none of these people can afford to pay out from their own money to give away what they make. I lost a BUNDLE making placards because I sold them way cheaper than they ended up costing and I was donating my time to it. I look at it as the Tribe defused my costs since I was going to make them anyway for MY plane and they would have been unaffordable if I had done them for just one plane. People who make their living at this have to charge a reasonable price or they go out of business. When I run out of Taylorcraft money, progress strops on my plane. BIG difference from loosing the income that supports your family.
The forum is free because we give away our parts and intellectual property here. That model just doesn't work for the people in the Tribe who make their living in General Aviation. We actually need to be careful we don't undercut the guys making their living here. We can't make it without them (or the guys who give it away). Sure I could design a tool to put bungees on, but I would rather GIVE my ideas to the guy who is making them so he can improve his product. I hope to just BUY one of his when I need it and will probably put it into the Mid Atlantic "tool pool" to use on other peoples planes too. I don't want to take business away from the guys making them, but I also don't mind sharing. It's all about balance.

I gotta say Drude, I hardly ever post on this site but I just had to comment--If you are a business man and putting a bunch of time and money into making bungee install tools- you might want to check a good look at your business model. I can understand why you would be relcutant to share, but you might want to put your eggs in another basket-L-2 Taylorcrafts are a very limited market.

Well I am glad you posted I am not sure what was so intriguing about my post that drew you out.

Yes I agree, L2's are not really a "market" at all are they?

                        Hank,
I'm not looking for a freebie. I am willing to pay for a tool or a drawing, I said that in my original post in the L2 forum. I buy drawings all the time from Univair for my Stinson. Forrest said in the L2 (tandem) forum that he had a factory tool and said that he was going to post something on the forum so that we may be able to install new bungees without killing ourselves. I was not aware that Forrest was in anything but the aircraft fixing and parts business, I certainly would no ask anyone to take time away from their primary feeding the family business for a freebie.

                          Drude,
I didn't get a chance to see your post before you took it down. From the subsequent posts, it sounds like maybe you tried to sell a tool but didn't have much success with it. If you have a tool or a drawing I would be happy to pay you a fair price.

                            Re: Hey Forrest

                            Bob,
Wasn't intended as a hit on you. A lot of people don't understand that many here do this in the side and sometimes "old timers" even kicks in and we loose track of what we have said we would send. I know I loose track all the time and I do NOT take it personally when someone gives me a reminder (or two or three). I still have a few parts that were loaned to me that I can't for the life of me remember who sent them.
                            Hank

Just a hint, do NOT put the name of the loaner on masking tape in pencil on the part. It will fade away and the glue is a bear to get off.
Hint 2, PrepSol from the auto paint store is great for removing tape residue and won't harm the finish. Doesn't help you read it, but gets the tape glue off.
