  • Cheeks and Bumps

    OK Gang...I'm doing a top overhaul on my 0-200 and the T-Craft exhaust was found to be cracked YET AGAIN! Now...you all know my undying love for Taylorcraft airplanes. That being said, I am installing a Cessna 150 exhaust. I just can't take it anymore! I promise...it is the only thing 'Cessna' that will be in or on the airplane. Now...where did all you other turncoats find those spiffy lower cowling 'blisters' to make room for those two mufflers? I have looked everywhere. My A&P swears that Wag-Aero and Aircraft Spruce have them, but I sure as heck can't find them. Those who are willing to confess to the bastardization of their T-Crafts...how did you get the "coffee cans" for the lower cowl?
    I look forward to all of the uproar and opinionation wrought by this post! (and possibly some useful leads as well!)

    Will the Luscombe exhauts fit the O-200?

      I used the Luscombe exhaust and no bumps were required. There is also a STC available now for it. The only drawback is that the heater could be a little better.

        Eric, then is isn't true that there is a slight difference in the spread between the exhaust ports, 65 thru 85, vs O200? I read that somewhere. The Luscombe exhaust for the right side worked perfect on my -85.

          Jim:

          I got my cheeks at a shop in the Valley. But if you check with Atlee Dodge they say they can angle the cans so you don't have to cut the cowl. They told me this after I did mine.
          I think the shop was at wolf lake, but not sure who it was. I got cheeks and plug bumps from them. I would check my paperwork but I'm in Kansas and the paperwork is still in Anchorage.

            Jim;
            If you need to get back in the air quickly. I still have my old exhaust and I think it is in good shape. It is in the garage in Anchorage and if you give me a call I will set up a time with Jeanie and you could see if it will work for you. 907-267-9048

                Thanks Larry, I'll check with the local guys (I should have just called you first!). KRW, I hope you are enjoying the nice, cool Kansas summer! We miss you! (PS: If the lower cowl bumps are missing off your airplane I didn't steal them...I only LOOKED at them.

                  If someone has an extra luscombe exhaust, I am annualing a 46 and the original exhaust is cracked. I am trying to convince the owner that is the best way to go. Tim

                    Re: Cheeks and Bumps

                    If it's of any help, on my souped-up C-85 (>100hp) engine, I still used the stainless exhaust made for my old (previous) A-65, to the same bore & dimensions (apart from the extension on the "back straight" that makes up for the cylinder dimensional difference).

                    Ne'r a crack in it.
