I need a good exhaust for my 41, 65 hp. Was told to stay away from wag aeros, heard it is poor material. I have the old one, it is thin and has a few blown out spots along with thin flanges. What is the best route to take? The best deal?

Re: need Exhaust
You have such a beautiful airplane it would be a shame to put the old original style exhaust back on. The next time I have mine apart, I plan on installing the Luscombe dual exhaust. I never want to have to take that heat shroud off again. There is a copy of the 337 for the Luscombe exhaust installation on the Forum's website. You may have to fabricate the shrouds for the carb and cabin heat, but they are simple compared to the original shroud. I suggest you do a couple of searches on this site for "exhaust shroud" and "Luscombe exhaust". Good luck!Richard Pearson

Re: need Exhaust
Ray,
I think there is an article on how to make the "triangular" Luscombe muff (on the Luscombe site?) Think I linked it or copied the instructions. Looked pretty good to me. Let me check. Here it is---
I have the Luscombe manifold on the right side of my -85. Pretty sure I bought it from Wag Aero, and it is well made and holding up just fine. Coating is still nice silver after several years of use. Note: I believe I have noticed quite a difference in the price depending upon the vendor for the manifolds.
Aside from an authentic restoration, I can't imagine why anyone would use the stock system. Maybe if they like pain?

Re: need Exhaust
I have an extra taylorcraft exhaust system, from a 1946 engine package I purchased. I have not taken the heat shield off, so I do not know what shape the system is in. If you are interestered I'll take the shield off and look. rex 817-297-2159

Re: need Exhaust
It's DAR approval and the complete system from Luscombe was $1100.00 phone #480 650 0883 or www.luscombesilvaire.info The engine runs better sounds great and you get more heat to the cabin and you don't have to pull engine to work on it.My cowl was for a lycoming witch had dual exhaust so the pipe comes out threw the same holes. The only problem is the gasgalater hits the pipes must move it.Every thing else works fine.Last edited by cvavon; 09-03-2014, 15:12.1940 BLT/BC65 N26658 SER#2000
