Don't much care what they name it; but I have ordered and my deposit has cleared and Harry has told me they are going to start on mine next week with due date to me about 1/15/05.
He said it would be a BC-12 SP; with the Cont. O200 and mechanical brakes. Trying to get the two wing tanks (hopefully) I'll even wait a bit for that, but if they don't approve it then the old BC version . Nose and wing tanks. Very basic. Electrical system with Nav lights; and electric starter, basic engine and flight instruments. No radios. No wheel pants. I'll add the Garmin 300xl and transponder and the wheel pants. Don't believe I will want any thing else. Also I've asked for wood prop, and give me credit difference.
Price was $54,995. With $6000 dn and production deposit about 10/15/04 of additional $25,000. Balance of $23,995 due upon delevery.
I am planning on flying there to pick if up, plus a couple of other trips to watch it progress.
I asked Harry about the fabric job at OSH, and he told me they were in a hurry and didn't have a chance to finish it properly. Sure hope so.
There was a bunch of us helping Harry, Mike and Darlene do the final assembly on site at his Oshkosh display, I think all things considered, the Texas factory did very well to get the machine there at all.
Interestingly, many of us had a whole lot of experience assembling major components, but I think it was the first time any of us had tried to install flaps!
I personally hope they do good on the Certified F22 as well as the SP Taylorcraft; I know there is a big market here in Europe for a basic nosewheel trainer replacement for the C-152, the market currently being taken by the plastic Grob's, Katana's and the like...but these are not so well accustomed to the "knocks" that training aircraft take, so I think there is another market over here.
Certainly there are C-172's being bought (at what a cost!) by those training organisations not willing to incur the risk of plastic trainers.
Don't think so. It isn't on the equipment list. That would be nice, but would probably put it over the weight limit. May ask for the Vertical Card compass in place of the wiskey compass. I also am trying to keep it simple, with just enough to get out of my strip and go places.
Of course, when I first started flying I did go all over with only a wiskey compass, E6B,Chart and watch. And many are still doing it today. Of course with the GPS, we have all gotten spoiled. In fact I have a small magellion and a mounted 196 Garmin in the yellow duck. Does make it easy. I haven't looked at a chart, except when I am giving instructios is a while.. Guilty !
It's always a good idea to look over a sectional periodically, It is amazing how those 999 feet AGL towers all of a sudden show up when you least expect them and my Garmin 295 doesn't show them!
