  • Which Marvel-Schebler carb for C-85 with O-200 mod?

Having recently toured around some mountainous areas with the old Stromberg carb, I might be in the market for a Marvel (later Precision LLC) carb with proper mixture control.

Which one should I have for my C-85 that has the O-200 mods?

    Ta!

You need the marvel for the 85 to be legal, with that said, good luck trying to find one. Tim

There is an STC to use the 0-200 Marvel on the C-85, but I think you have to send the carb to Marvel to have them do the work.

What is that STC number? If tempest does it, its the manufacturer making the change, they also can create serial numbers. tim

You want a MA-3SPA. Make sure the jet and nozzle is correct for your installation.

I have the MA-3SPA on my O-200. Type certificate number 233 for the C85 engine gives a whole list. It states Stromberg or Marvel.

Not sure how to attach, but here is the link:http://http://rgl.faa.gov/Regulatory_and_Guidance_library/rgMakeModel.nsf/0/73e923a0d5faef7e8525670e004526a4/$FILE/ATTRB7ZS/E-233.pdf

I will look for the stc info. It is an MA-3SPA but it has to be the correct 10- number. There are A LOT of MA-3SPAs that will not work.

The MA-3SPA is model and configuration. The 10- number is the part number and signifies what the internal components are. If you change the internals change the 10- number.

                  I believe the MA3-SPA as used in the O-200 of a C-150 would be a 10-4894.

Lowe Aviation owns the STC to install a modified O-200 carb on a C85. As far as I know, there is no requirement to have Precision, or whoever the owner of the hour is, do the work. STC Number SE01309AT

That said, the mixture control on the Stromberg, when working correctly and used correctly, can do anything the Marvel can do except lean cutoff (and there's a way to do that too, at least near sea level). Many folks pull the mixture control all the way out at high altitudes and don't notice much of a difference. What they fail to realize, though, is the Stromberg is pretty good at compensating for altitude by itself.

Any performance increase with the Marvel is directly related to the loss of weight in the wallet.

You can use a 10-4115 carb and the new number is a 10-4894-1 for an o-200. What really sucks is the difference between a taildragger carb and a Tricycle, they have the same 10-# but the intermediate/transistion ports are in different locations. That was straight from Tempest. I will never run a Kelly Aerospace product again. TEMPEST all the way! Tim
