Flying Magizine, I believe, had an article about just this sort of thing not to long ago. Never but never admit to a thing until you have talked to your attorney.

Well I am trying to see if the comercial pilot that is sueing me is required to surrender his medical, because he is going to claim loss of income even though he was flying 6 months after the crash, and he flew this last season also. The average person would read the report and chalk it up to pilot error in his crash but he has a lawyer now and I am trying to get my facts together on my defense. I cant afford a lawyer yet so I am running solo for now. TimN29787

The thing about "Big Brothers" is they can be your best friend and protector, or the jack-ass that beats the stuffing out of you every time you turn your back. The FAA was originally set up by PILOTS to help keep us safe. There are still a bunch of really great guys there, the RIGHT kind of "Big Brother". There are also a bunch of the bad kind of brothers there who don't even fly and couldn't care less about aviation, pilots or airplanes.
Find the good ones and let them know how much you appreciate them, we need more of them to take the FAA back. Avoid the jerks like the plague, they will make our lives miserable. Watch for the new guys who haven't become either one yet. The bad actors will recruit them, we need to get to them first.
We can do a lot to make the FAA better just by getting to know the local FAA employees and getting them out to the airport to show them how great light aviation really is. TAKE ONE UP IN A TAYLORCRAFT and show him what kind of people we are! Every one we turn from the dark side will be a long time friend and maybe we can infect them with our passion for flying.
IT WORKS! Once you get to know a few of the good ones they will feed the new guys to you. We need to take the FAA back.

Yes, talk to a lawyer before you say anything. AOPA has a great program and it is VERY reasonably priced. The NASA ASRS system can SAVE YOUR BACK SIDE! Get a form and CARRY IT IN YOUR PLANE!!! If you screw up, USE IT!

Two years ago I had to surrender my medical because the doctor found a double hernia. At the time I did not know that a hernia was not a reason for a failure. It took 18 months and several thousand dollars to get it back!!! Now I will let the medical exspire and fly sport pilot and not tell the FAA anything. Also now I don't have to deal with the TSA.TF# 702 Don't be afraid to try something new. Remember amatuers built the ark, professionals built the titanic!
