  • Strut replacement

I am having my struts replaced next week with sealed struts. Any advice to my AP on how to trim them. My little t-craft trims perfectly now. Ii would hate to mess the trim up.

Match the rear strut adjustments with your current struts.

Messure distance from inside bolt hole to inside bolt hole, with both new and old strut under compression, duplicate, fly! No problem!

Where did you get your new sealed struts from?

        Good Luck with the installation

          Hi Dan,

There are rigging instructions in the service manual. Why not just use that?

          That's what I suggest.

That is a good suggestion. Matching up the hole spacing in the rear struts is a start, but you can't adjust the front struts. If they are a little off in length from the old ones things will be different. Remember the airplane is +or- 1/8 inch, so there could be 1/4 inch difference in the length of your front struts.

The new ones should be dead on.... however we have found this not to be true , measure everything then perhaps use the rigging instrucvtions ; THEN flight test for rig ; that was half my total flight back then, proper trim. WE even switched front struts on occasion... THIMBK !

See page 6 of the attached doc for rigging instructions.

The attached is the lift strut service bulletin and is the same as what's in the service manual.

                  Re: Strut replacement

Installed a new set of Univair struts on my BC12D. Set the rear strut adjustments the same as the old strut. Checked the rigging as stated in the manual. Flew the aircraft and found that it was right on and flew great.
