  • Fuel shut-off valve

Talking with the guys at Speedway Motors I have been able to find the manufacturer of the sexy shut-off valve that I have mentioned on the forum before. Hilborn fuel systems.

Back with the Speedway link in a sec.

Notice it is more expensive from the Mfgr. Hummmm.

It's called "deep discounts" due to large volume purchases. When I was in business I was a dealer for Cooper Avaition but I bought my hardware fron Dillsburg Avaition for less than I could get it from Cooper Even tho all the material came from Cooper. Dick

Turns out that my old valve is just fine now that I have checked it out, but while I have the system apart I am going to go ahead and get one of these and see if I can hook it up. End to end size is very close.

Worth the money just to try out a modern valve; if I can get it to fit in neat and solid.

Also the fuel injection unit is also made for alcohol so the valve will not be hurt by modern auto gas chuck

          Re: Fuel shut-off valve

          Hi All,
I bought one of these valves from speedway and it operates great. Virtually no friction. The only problem is that the threads on the coupler are some odd straight thread that I have never seen before. The coupler seals to the valve with an o-ring but the open end of the coupler uses the same thread. I needed 1/4 npt to fit into my finger screen. I called Hillborn and talked with a tech support fellow that found a short coupler with 1/4npt on one end and straight o-ring on the other. He said nobody had ordered one in years. I have the part number at home and will post it this evening.

The Hilborn part number for the fitting is: 13-6BX4

What do you mean? Am I missing something? I needed a valve to mate to my finger screen with an AN6 fitting on the other end.

                  Smooth move Hal.

Thanks for the part number, likely I will need one. Seems you have solved a problem for me, even before I knew the problem existed. LOL

Did the Hilborn tech say what the weird threads are? Just curious.

I did not ask what the threads were. I took the fitting to my local Lowes aviation and could not identify them. It seemed like 1/2 inch was the right diameter but it did not match any thread pitch they had.

That is a special thread, Mil spec. You wont find anythink in any local hardware store....Tim

                        Tim,
Does that mean that you have one of those valves?

I have one of my own design, its a direct replacement that I am workinig on getting an STC for, a little lax on the drawing though. I think I have enough handles for 2-3 more valves for the header tank. Do a search, I posted some pics. Tim

What I meant was: Do you have one of the Hilborn valves and that is why you know it is MIL instead of say (Whitworth?), or some other weird thread.

No, I didnt use the hilborn, but the F-15 had lots of those fittings in the hydraulic system.
