  • What is this?

This unit appears to be a cable/bungee actuated starter. Has anyone seen anything like this before? Missing is a crank extension that would probably come thru to the dash. In use, you wind the cable up via the crank(against the bungee tension) and then push in on the crank, releasing the bungee tension to actuate the starter pawl. Any idea who made it and what engine(s) it mounts on? The bungee and cable would certainly have to be routed back thru the fuselage towards the tail.

I've heard of a bungee starter being installed in a J4 Cub Coupe. When the bungee cord breaks it takes out the whole belly of the airplane.

I need a measurement for the mounting flange, but appears to be a McDowell starter for small radial such as Warner, Ranger, Menasco.
