    Re: Hand Prop 101

thank u Mark on the dry pump , I was waiting ; I was TAUGHT to turn it backwards so that EVERYBODY knows you are clearing the engine of flooded condition with throttle wide open.
Then make damn sure you call for "closed & cracked" and "contact" I too had stood there with my head cocked to the side and a tried to decide the exhaust, intake discussion.... I do believe that turning her forward is just as good , I use 10-12 cylinders , I do this with a very forcefull double handed twirling of the prop. Takes about 3-4 flips . I do consider the backward being safer if the nut behind the wheel should forget to turn "switch off" Back to the logs I am catching up today.

Turn it backwards and pretend you are winding up the rubber band.

Hade her trying to runaway after stalling on the runway one time, Engine flodded and no shocks! Never leave home with out them!
I din't know I could run so fast!
Throtle closed but enough fuel in the systemto revup anyway lasted only a few seconds but, It was an eye opener!
A warm floded engine starts EASY!
The needel was set for( too) rich idle for winter flying and the wheater turned warmer, causing the floding.
I loved airplane seens I was a kid.

Boy Len I can sympathize. I have been surprised by that very thing more then once and it is always an eye opener.

I started a reply to this thread and lost it. If you find it please return it to me as I had not finished it. In spite of that here is my message.
Our engines are simple pumps. They can be converted to air compressors or vacuum pumps.. ergo turn them one way fuel air mix goes in...turn them the other way fuel air mix goes out! I do not believe that you can flood an updraft carb aspirated engine while turning it backwards. You can also clear the engine by turning it forward if you limit the intake of fuel.

This does not apply to 2 stroke engines which can run in either direction. This is to make backing up easy, or could be used as reverse thrust in an emergency.

            so there to!
I will improve considerably when I can get the T-Craft out of the hanger.
