Thanks Dave I was dumb when it came to the assembly as I had never seen one up close enough to examine it and assumed it was simply a refit of a disc brake unit used with drum brakes.

Ok....that's the way to go. My Grove brakes were done pre-CAP with a Field Approval but today paying 20% of the value of a plane for brakes would end the marriage...both mine and me with the aircraft.

Just got back on and as usual so much info to take in. Thanks Yes they are the 3050 Cleveland and the drum is part 169-00201, way too much new. Cleveland said .09 thick with .08 lowest tolerance. Mine are at .05 give or take as the wear is not even. I had heard the PO had some tall Bush tires on until the FAA wrote them up because he did not have the required brakes. Logs show this also. Sure that is why most of the damage occurred. I did find some on eBay and ordered them. They look good but guess I'll see when they arrive.

Nothing inherently wrong with 29-31" tires except if the pilot is in a hurry to use the brakes for some reason. Just take the time to let the plane slow and apply some drag as required. Now as far as adjustments that's a call...some like them pre-dragging or loaded some to get the full effect-hydraulic or mechanical. One test is right after takeoff do tires rotate for some time or stop quickly? Pre-loaded they will stop sooner and likely wear quicker especially if operating off of dirt which wears brakes if it can get inside or on.

Good luck with your repairs and future flying.
