Both Studebaker & Packard produced The General Electric designed

    J-47 engine which was used on the F-86, B-47 & B-36.

      Interesting...so a tenuous link between Taylorcraft>Studebaker>F86 Sabre.

Can I therefore fit a J-47 on my Taylorcraft using a Field Approval?

Field Approval? No problem as long as you can duplicate the "Test Rig"!

If you do, can I have any of the parts left behind on the runway?

Ford built B-24's in quantity @ Willow Run.

                Chevy built R-1830's & R-2800's as well.

                Toyota?

Actually that was the Nash dealer on N. Arch where they got a lot of trim stuff plus the crank handles. They were used on other brands too. I have a very close copy fo the trunk latch fasteners sitting on my desk. WE are still looking for the ORIGINAL small ends of the trunk latches ; I have about 500 of the big ends.

Our Nash dealership is long gone and the building was tore down . That address is now a medical building and i have no idea where any of the original Nash parts went. Marv

I have a F-19 built in 1978, not many Studebakers around then.

Using the same logic that they did in the old days, I would assume some of my parts were from a 70's era Ford, Chrysler, Hugo, etc. Maybe some research will show my plane has parts from a "K" car!!

                        Re: Studebaker- Taylorcraft -Parts

Nash, not Studebaker? Dang! I have been looking at the wrong type cars all these years! I got the info back in the 70s from one of the old paint shop guys who worked for Taylorcraft just before and after WW-II (long since flown west).
Lots of cars (and planes) back then used the same small parts (many cars still do) so it wasn't surprising I found several of our knobs and handles on a Studebaker. Same ones were probably used on the Nash.
It's a little harder to use car parts on a certified plane after the FAA started taking control. Back then you could get away with a lot more. I doubt anyone will find any "K" car part on an airplane now. ;-)
Even the Ward Aero wind generator on one of the other threads is made from a lot of boat motor generator parts. I would bet a lot of those extra cases we have in stock were never on airplanes, even though they are identical down to the same stamped ID numbers (yes, impression stamped, but it is thick wall, non crack critical metal to confine and strengthen the magnetic field).
                        Hank

Got to start looking at Nash cars at the car shows now.

BTW, a T-Craft flying buddy of mine that lived in South Bend (since passed away) used Studebaker trim strips down the side of his '41 DeLuxe and it was a pretty close match.

Any more info on the strips? What model and year Studebaker? Where did he get them?

Some chrome "curb feelers" would look good also.

You joke, but I came out to the airport to fly my "other" airplane (about 15 years ago) and found the airport operator had attached curb feelers to my Ercoupe 415C.
