    Re: Scott 2000 Tailwheel

I was hoping the Maule was the cure. It wasn't. After going thru several mechanics hoping to find a shimmy cure I finally took it to one who pretty much will only work on old airplanes. Left it one evening and came back the next morning and no shimmy since. He took off the Maule, tore apart my old 2000/3000 put it back together. With the Maule in additon to the shimmy I had several "flat's.

If you have a "funky" tail wheel you should also check the front bolt (the vertical one) through the leaf springs. There is a little tube bushing in the fuselage that falls out when you take the spring off. The bolt goes back in and the assembly fits together real easy without the bushing, except the whole tail wheel assembly can now rock back and forth under load. The bolt should be snug in the fuselage hole. If it rocks back and forth it's worn or the bushing is gone. You can't usually tell if the bushing is gone just by pulling the springs to the side. The rear strap will hold it so you may not feel it's loose (until the "Funky wiggle" wears the strap out of shape.
