  • what NEW T-crafts parts do you want to obtain in the next 24 months ?

Hey folks here is a scheme.

Let us take a bottoms up approach to see what new parts are actually in demand.

Make a post to this thread and list any and all of the T-craft parts that you would like to purchase as new parts over the next 24 months.

Let's keep this simple too, no verbage, no lectures, no explanations, no rationilzations, no eloboration, no words other than a simple list of quantity, part number, description. Sort of like a purchase order or invoice.

    Example;

    2 ea. b12-123 horz. stabilizor (2 hinge) for a 1945 BC12d1
    1 ea ba-1234 lower cowling for 1939 BL-65
3 ea. XXX gasket for full tank filler on 1946 bc12d

I made the data up but that's the gist of what I am describing.

If you don't know the part number just put XXX and do put a short description.

We will see quickly what that demand might be.

    Play along if you like.

I think this has already been done on an older thread. I

      But worth rekindling, I think.

Start with things I would buy if they offered it now.
        1) 1 ea. 1941 BC-12-65 lower cowl (the compound curved one, NOT the flat sheet post war although I will probably need another one for the 45)
        2) 2 ea top cowl hinge set
        3) Exhaust system heat shroud and clamps
        4) Cooling baffles/shrouds
        5) Throttle balls in ivory and red
        6) Glove box handles (I already made mine, but they break easy)
        7) Shoulder harness kits
        8) Right hand brake kits
        9) Recover kits (fabric and chemicals for a "T") or better yet a fly in, drop off recover package. This could make them some money!
        10) Wing root fairing kits THAT FIT!
        11) Pulleys
        12) Main tank fuel cut off valve

Things I WISH they had offered before I killed myself building them or hunting for years.
        1) Instrument panel blanks (There are a LOT of ratty panels out there!)
        2) Nose bowls (yea, I made one. NEVER AGAIN!)
        3) Tail wires and fittings
        4) Metal wheel pants and fittings
        5) Wing tanks (want to make it BIG? Make the new ones so they can be put in without tearing the wing up, like with a factory metal cover on top maybe?).
        6) Wing ribs

41 BC-12-65 Deluxe cowl trim strips (I would buy them but the factory shouldn't bother. No real market.)

I'm sure there is much more when I think about it for a while

          Hey Hank,

Your item #5 Wing Tanks; Wag Aero sells the tanks. I did a 337 with help from Walter Whake for replacing the fabric over the tanks with sheet aluminum. A copy of the paperwork is on the Taylorcraft website.

I agree with you about the need for a heat muff, but it needs to be affordable. Univair offers one, but at over $700, I'll keep patching mine.

I knew about the tank cover STC (really nice), it would just be great if the whole thing was available from the factory as an "original equipment" kit. Doesn't matter for me since I already have wing tanks (those were on my "wish they were available before" list). Also knew about the heat muff but that is a RIDICULOUS price for it! When the time comes I will make one at that price.

                      for bc 12 d
wing tanks with metal covering kit and all the paper work.
                      main tank 12 gallon.
landing gear chock cord, next year mine are 6 years old.
                      I would consider:
changing the fuel valves for stc'd ballvaves.
bolt on chock cord fraring mount. instead of broken welded on tab.
                      if rebulding.
                      landing gear bumber.
                      fabric kits, no envelops
                      wing bows with lights.
                      kit for skyligth with stc.
I know I find these items at other scorses fairly easy, but it is what I am considering to do with the my plane.

I'll be buying bungees and shoulder harness...both available aftermarket.

Things I'd buy if improved, modern versions were available:
                          brakes (that work)
                          fuel valves (teflon, ball)
                          exhaust (split)
                          cabin heater fittings (big)

Things I can get by without but I'd buy if the cost was reasonable:
                          wing struts
                          cowls
                          landing gear struts
a big compass with T-Craft logo
                          period correct knobs and placards
                          D window fittings
                          skylight

Kits I might buy if offered:
0-200 engine conversion kit (cowl, engine mount, fittings)
heavy duty, big wheel landing gear
                          flaps installation kit

                          The airplane that would sell:
a homebuilt, experimental clip wing T-Craft kit
                          Bob Gustafson

Re: what NEW T-crafts parts do you want to obtain in the next 24 months ?

You know, a LOT of the things we are listing are parts tribe members are making for our own use. Anybody know what the regs are for us becoming the subs to Taylorcraft for some of these non critical parts?

There is virtually NO profit for Taylorcraft in parts like landing gear fairings and instrument panel placards, but WE have the patterns and can build them in a garage as needed (and for MUCH less cost than a factory can on short runs). If we set up a cottage support industry like Germans did in WW-II, a lot of the the simple, small stuff can be built for a modest price that would be easy (and inexpensive) for Taylorcraft to inspect, certify and stock in small quantities. Probably WON'T work for any critical parts unless you get the manufacture process certified, and that costs. The key is (and the reason we would be willing to pay a LITTLE more for it) that the part would be a FACTORY part.

I am NOT saying we should compete with the factory. In this business model we would become their sub contractors. It would only become a "Taylorcraft" part when THEY accepted it and sold it. Instead of us selling parts to each other, we would be passing them through Taylorcraft, at which point they would certify them as "factory parts".

I have seen a lot of owner produced parts that were better quality than the factory original stuff. If WE had bought Taylorcraft this would have been part of my business plan suggestion.

I think preparing a list is a brilliant idea and I presume it is for the information of the new owners eventually?

But surely we must have somebody who has a good knowlege of all things mechanical in respect of the Taylorcraft fleet to be in charge of it as there will be obviously a good deal of duplication & we eventually need ONE overall definitive list to make it more user friendly for those who need to see it?

Just the way I would deal with it, so feel free to dismiss the idea if you wish!

For my ten pence worth for the F22A

                              1. Several sets of Bungee's ( shock cords ) and Rubber mounts.
                              2. An Exhaust stack and mufflers.
                              3. Wing fuel Tanks ( 21 USG per side )
                              4. Set of bracing wires for the tail ( They seem prone to rust )
                              5. Brake pads / hydraulic components.
                              6. Service commodities.
                              7. Starter relays
                              8. Nose wheel gear (just in case! )
                              9. Sets of bushes ( sorry don't know the technical names ) for the flaps, and
                              wing and tail moving bits.
                              10. Set of landing gear ( just in case! )

The " just in case " items are what I see regularly replaced at my
airfield as a result of mishaps!

I hope they will manafacture spares accross the board and not just on the numbers game as the newer aircraft would obviously suffer if that was the case.

I also hope that all manafactured spares for the F22A aircraft would come with a "certificate of conformity " to satisfy the UK CAA Annerx 11 Audit trail.
